The Young and the Restless spoilers tease that Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) will face a big challenge ahead. As Y&R viewers know, he’s just decided to throw his hat in the ring and run for an open city council seat. He’s been encouraged by Councilwoman Tammy Diamond (Gillian White) to run and he’s been emblazoned by the great feedback he’s received on his New Hope housing development. And then there’s Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan), who has encouraged him to run as well.
But shortly after Chelsea basically talked Nick into running for the open seat, he cautioned her about their lives being up for public scrutiny. Political campaigns can get ugly, with each side digging up dirt on the other side’s candidate. There’s certainly a lot of mud-slinging in these campaigns, and Nick’s will be no exception. He’ll have to answer for some of the things he and the Newman family have done over the years.
For starters, he’ll probably be raked over the coals for participating in his dad’s faked death. As Y&R viewers will remember, Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) faked his own death with Nick’s help. Then Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) was carted off for Victor’s murder. Of course, she didn’t kill anyone, but it still looked pretty bad at the time. Then there was Nick’s whole impersonation of J.T. Hellstrom (Thad Luckinbill) and the infamous video that surfaced of him pulling off his JT mask.
It will certainly be a lot to explain, but as Nick told Chelsea, he’ll just be honest about everything, and that should do the trick. But for Chelsea, the prospect of being honest about past deeds doesn’t sound so appealing, and she was a bit taken aback when she realized that she would likely be raked over the coals as well, since she’s Nick’s significant other. The fact that she doesn’t have custody of her own son could come up, as well as her history of running cons.
But there’s something else that Chelsea has got in the works right now that could get unearthed when Nick runs for city council, and that’s her money laundering scheme. As Y&R viewers will remember, Chelsea received a large sum of money from her late husband Calvin Boudreau’s (John Burke) secret business dealings. She asked Kevin Fisher (Greg Rikaart) go give the money a good wash, and that’s currently in process.
Of course, laundering money isn’t something that one does quickly. It takes time, so Chelsea can’t exactly call off the laundering scheme midstream. Moving that kind of money around would attract attention, which Chelsea doesn’t want. So, she’ll probably be stuck hoping that what she’s doing with all that cash doesn’t come to light. And we should note that she started laundering the money back when she and Nick weren’t getting along over Victor’s death ruse, so Nick has no idea about what she’s doing.
The money laundering scheme is certainly something that could come back to bite and could really hurt Nick’s chances of getting that city council seat. Will Chelsea ever tell Nick what she’s done, or will she just let it ride and hope that Nick’s opposition doesn’t dig into her finances too closely? Something tells us that it will end up being a rude awakening for Nick, who might find out in a terrible, and very public, way what Chelsea has been up to.
We also have to remember that Chelsea will soon have a mysterious man come into her life. Simon Black (Jeffery Vincent Parise) will soon be coming on the Genoa City scene and interacting with Chelsea. It seems that he’s someone from her past, and that likely means her con-artist days. That could throw another big wrinkle into Nick’s public office plans, especially if his opposition gets wind of Simon’s connection to Chelsea.
