The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers tease that Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) will continue to suffer. Y&R fans know Adam swapped out Victor Newman’s (Eric Braeden) medication for pills with double the dosage. His accomplice warned that Victor’s side effects would be worsened significantly, so Adam was playing with fire.
Now Adam believes his actions caused the death of his father, so we have to ask: Do you feel sorry for Adam? Do you think he’s being taught a valuable lesson instead? In some ways, it’s tough to have too much sympathy for Adam since this was a horrible plan to begin with. It wasn’t well-thought out, especially considering Nate Hastings (Sean Dominic) suspected Adam of stealing his tablet.
Adam should’ve known it’d be easy to trace Victor’s worsening side effects back to him. He has no one to blame but himself for the devastating blow he’s facing. If “losing” Victor can help Adam see the light, maybe it’ll be for the best. There have been some good things to come out of this “death” scheme so far.
For starters, The Young and the Restless fans are seeing Adam’s guilt – and that’s not something we’ve seen much up until now. We’re seeing Adam mourn and show that he does indeed love Victor, even though he targeted him. Adam’s pill switch plot was cruel, but this one arguably is, too. Perhaps Adam deserves to face this kind of betrayal, but at least he’s paying the price for his mistakes.
If The Young and the Restless wants to get the audience back on Adam’s side, making him suffer is a nice start. That’s the classic path to redemption. Of course, Adam is a complicated character and should remain one. Nobody’s looking for a squeaky-clean Adam, but he could stand to tone down his tactics. Doing something that jeopardized Victor’s health is going too far.
However, Victor has gone too far in the past as well. He’s the reason Adam lost years of his life and has been struggling to find his way again. Victor’s the one who exploited Chloe Mitchell’s (Elizabeth Hendrickson) grief over losing a child. He got Chloe out of a mental institution and ultimately lost control of the situation, which led to Adam’s presumed death.
Maybe all this drama could lead to a fresh start for the Newman clan. It’ll take time for everyone to work through this, but there’s hope. In the immediate aftermath of the scheme though, we’d say Adam will be outraged that they put him through this intense grief. Does Adam have a right to be angry or is this simply the payback he deserves?
