The Young and the Restless spoilers tease that viewers are in for an emotional week as Genoa City’s beloved Neil Winters (Kristoff St. John) passes away and is laid to rest. We now know more details about the storyline surrounding Neil’s passing and funeral service, as Y&R has released a special promo video about the impact that his death will have on Genoa City and its residents.
Neil passed away unexpectedly and suddenly upstairs at Devon Hamilton’s (Bryton James) penthouse. He was supposed to be getting ready for the opening of Devon and Abby Newman’s (Melissa Ordway) new restaurant, Society, but never showed up. It will be Devon who ultimately discovers Neil’s body, and viewers will see a devastated Devon descend the stairs, as the gravity of the situation sinks in.
From there, Devon took the brave step of going to Society and personally telling his family about Neil’s sudden passing. He pulled Lily Ashby (Christel Khalil) aside and broke the news to his sister, who was crushed. Other family members learned about Neil’s death, and Y&R viewers witnessed some heart-wrenching scenes.
Neil’s funeral will be an emotional event as well. Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) will eulogize his friend and sponsor, and he’ll convey that Neil didn’t just touch lives, but he saved lives. Of course, Jack knows this personally as Neil provided counsel and advice to him in numerous times of crisis.
Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) is also shown in the promo tearfully saying that she doesn’t know if she would even be here right now without him, and Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) is shown silently crying at the loss of his good friend.
As Y&R viewers know, Malcolm Winters (Shemar Moore) will return to Genoa City after Neil’s passing, and we’ll see a touching scene where Devon and Malcom greet each other with a sad look and a firm embrace. The promo shows Malcolm telling someone that he doesn’t want to think of a world without Neil in it, and it also appears that Malcolm will speak about his brother at the funeral service.
Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson) is also shown, saddened and telling someone that she just thought he’d always be there. Of course, in the final months of his life, Neil and Ashley had a romantic relationship that was on the casual side, but it was revealed that Neil was starting to really care about Ashley. Ashley eventually left for Paris, which ended the relationship, so she may be feeling badly about how things ended there.
It certainly looks like viewers will be treated to a touching look back at Neil’s life and times as the week progresses. Y&R to began to say farewell to Neil on Tuesday, April 23, and the drama will continue through Friday, April 26. Then on Monday, April 29, there will be a special standalone episode honoring Neil’s portrayer, the late Kristoff St. John.
