The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers tease that some huge changes have been happening in Lola Abbott’s (Sasha Calle) relationship with Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor). They’re still on solid ground, but we’re starting to see some cracks in their fairytale romance. Things certainly aren’t as perfect as the lovebirds once believed.
Y&R fans can expect “Kola’s” issues to get worse due to Summer Newman (Hunter King) and Theo Vanderway (Tyler Johnson). Kyle’s growing closer to Summer, and Lola’s been bonding with Theo. The Young and the Restless spoilers say all that could be a bad sign for Kyle and Lola’s marriage. The writing’s on the wall here, so a major blowup has to be looming.
Josh Griffith, Y&R’s head writer and co-executive producer, seems to like Summer. He softened the character as soon as he took over, but Summer lost the initial love triangle round with Lola and Kyle. Now that we’re back for round two, Summer may be poised for a victory.
Former daytime exec Angelica McDaniel’s influence is now gone, and she was supposedly a loyal “Kola” supporter. We’re presumably seeing the shift toward what Griffith wants onscreen now. That also explains why Lola was suddenly pulled in Theo’s direction. They’re setting up some new story developments here, so let’s consider what those might be.
For starters, we’ve got this kid angle. They keep coming back to the baby stuff for Kyle and Lola, so Lola’s probably going to be pregnant soon. Her false alarm on October 16 should set up what’s to come. Unfortunately, Lola and Theo’s growing bond could present a problem. Since Griffith doesn’t seem eager to make Summer look bad, that could mean Lola will have to look bad instead.
That brings us to another repeated theme for Theo. It’s been established that he’s very casual about hookups and uses the bedroom as the answer for everything. Will Lola misread a situation between Kyle and Summer? Will Lola’s New York lies be exposed and leave her reeling? Alcohol may even be involved in the aftermath. Regardless, there could some scenario that pushes Lola into bed with Theo.
Since we’ve had all the pregnancy hints, The Young and the Restless may be setting up a paternity mystery. Will Lola find herself expecting for real and wonder who the daddy is? At least it’d shake up this storyline and provide more genuine conflict for “Kola.” They could use some bigger curveballs to deal with.
In light of this push toward “Skyle,” Theo might be a better father candidate. Of course, Lola also lose the baby eventually. Y&R wouldn’t be locked into anything, but there’d be some interesting places to go with this hot plot.
