If you were a fan of All My Children, you’re in luck. ABC has plans for a primetime return to Pine Valley! The cherished daytime drama ran from 1970 to 2011 on ABC before a brief online run in 2013, which ended in cancellation. Now ABC has an All My Children sequel in the works, which will be a new spin on an old favorite.
This primetime version of the series will be called Pine Valley and is set to have some great blast-from-the-past moments. According to Deadline, Leo Richardson is serving as writer and executive producer on this buzz-worthy project.
The show’s premise involves a young journalist showing up in Pine Valley with ulterior motives. The plan is to expose the town’s dark and deadly history, but this journalist gets caught up in a feud between the Kane and Santos families in the process.
If you watched the telenovela-inspired Jane the Virgin on The CW, you have an idea of how this show might feel. There’ll be an over-the-top soapy element to Pine Valley, which should bring some exciting twists and turns.
Former All My Children stars Mark Consuelos and Kelly Ripa are executive producers along with filmmaker Robert Nixon. That name will undoubtedly be familiar to many AMC fans since he’s the son of the late Agnes Nixon, who created All My Children.
Andrew Stearn also has an executive producer credit and has fought hard for this primetime AMC sequel. As an All My Children fan when he was younger, Stearn chose a deal with ABC so he could reboot the show he loved so much.
Although no deals have been made yet when it comes to getting former AMC cast members back on the air, that’s definitely part of the plan. The goal is to introduce new characters and invite old favorites to come along for the ride.
There’s talk about Consuelos and Ripa at least making cameo appearances, which seems likely to happen due to their executive producer ties to Pine Valley.
There’s no word on when this primetime spin on All My Children might hit the screen, but we’ll give you updates as other news comes in. For now, it’s just exciting to know Pine Valley could ultimately be revisited! Stick with CDL for all the latest soap spoilers, news, updates and recaps.
