Blue Angels Fly Over Houston – “America Strong” Tour Salutes COVID-19 Frontline Workers

The Navy Blue Angels performed a stunning flyover in Houston, Texas, on Wednesday, May 6th, and the thunderous spectacle honored the medical professionals on the front lines during the coronavirus crisis. The flyover was part of the America Strong Tour, during which the Blue Angels and the Air Force Thunderbirds are touring the country and performing flyovers as a thank you to those putting themselves at risk to help others in this era of COVID-19.

Skies were clear on Wednesday for the Blue Angels flyover, which began at 12:30pm in The Woodlands. From there, the jets flew to Kingwood and to the Texas Medical Center. Healthcare workers gathered on the helipad at Memorial Hermann Hospital to watch the flyover. “It gives us hope and lets us know that we are appreciated,” one nurse said in response to the event.

From the Medical Center, the Blue Angels flew across southwest Houston to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital, then to Sugar Land, Katy, and west Houston. From there, the formation of seven jets flew to the downtown Houston area, back to the Texas Medical Center, then ended the flyover.

The America Strong Tour began on April 28th, when the Air Force Thunderbirds and the Navy Blue Angels flew over New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. The tour salutes the first responders and US troops on the frontlines, in addition to essential employees who are keeping the nation going during the coronavirus crisis.

The next stop for the Blue Angels will be in New Orleans, where they’ll perform a flyover for front-line workers there who are helping patients battle COVID-19. It’s great to see the brave men and women who are putting their own safety on the line during the coronavirus pandemic get some recognition. The healthcare workers in Houston really appreciated the gesture.

One healthcare worker at Houston Methodist said: “It’s an incredible show of support from our Armed Forces. We have some incredible members of our team right here, right now.” And a veteran who was watching the spectacle said: “it was a great tribute to the doctors and nurses working hard to keep us safe.”

We commend those who are working on the COVID-19 front lines, and we’re glad that the Blue Angels are able to salute our healthcare heroes across the nation. Stick with CDL for more COVID-19 news and updates.
