Buckingham Palace is reportedly prepared to go under lockdown to protect Queen Elizabeth. As health experts upgrade the coronavirus to a pandemic, there is a sense of urgency to protect the Royal Family. In particular, the Queen since protecting her is a top priority. As more people are becoming infected, officials are doing what they can to take precautionary measures.
Italian Infection Rates Alarm UK Officials
While most of the world has seen steady infection numbers, Italy is different. Their infection and death rates are alarming and the UK is paying attention. As world health officials upgrade coronavirus to a pandemic, there is a sense of urgency to protect Queen Elizabeth. Officials are currently scrambling to come up with a plan to do exactly that.
Buckingham Palace Lockdown Plan
In the event that the UK infection rates reach Italy’s numbers, there is reportedly a plan to put Buckingham Palace on lockdown. That means nobody will be allowed entry and no one will be permitted to leave. It mirrors what Italy has done by putting the entire country on lockdown.
Previously, national health organizations and the UK government said to take precautions, but it’s “business as usual.”
Queen Elizabeth Could Be Forced Into Isolation
According to Express, royal insiders stated that if the coronavirus infection rates continue to climb, then Queen Elizabeth will be “forced into isolation.”
Royal expert Phil Dampier explained that with the Queen’s advanced age, she is at higher risk of infection and death than the average person.
“The Queen wore gloves to hand out medals last week. I can’t imagine the Palace powers will want her meeting and greeting thousands of people, particularly at her age, if the cases escalate.”
Those that are at increased risk of infection and death include the young, elderly and those with compromised immune systems.
Latest Coronavirus Statistics In UK
According to Reuters, British cases of coronavirus rose 29 percent in the last 24 hours. That brings the total of infections to 590 with 134 of those cases being new since the last update. As of the latest information, 10 people are dead from the infection or complications from the virus. Reuters reported statistics from Public Health England state that the hardest hit areas include Hertfordshire, Kensington, Chelsea and Surrey.
Buckingham Palace is not currently on lockdown, but if the confirmed number of cases continues to rise, then it will happen soon. What do you think is the best way to protect Queen Elizabeth and the Royal Family as the pandemic sweeps across the world?
