Chicago Med begins tonight with Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt) going to his wife, Caroline Charles’ grave to replace the flowers and sit on the bench to drink his coffee. Maggie Lockwood (Marlyne Barrett) walks in with Ben, who is in remission. He offers to stick around for her radiation treatment, kissing him as she reminds him that he doesn’t have to be there. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto) walks into the lounge asking Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) if he is going to Lani’s thing but he feels she was always closer to her than he was. She encourages him to go, asking him if they can be friends again, something he agrees to. Maggie interrupts them with a pediatrics case that just came into treatment 4.

Young Jesse had an accident, making oatmeal in the microwave, but she has seen Will before and he suggests they give Dr. manning so space. The mother is very sketchy and has an injured hand, Will offers to check on her, bringing her into another room but somewhere she can see him through the window. Her finger is dislocated as she explains she needed to smash the window and the door was locked. He questions her about struggling with addiction and she realizes he didn’t recognize her at all and begins to tell him how he told her that he didn’t think to take oxy would be a problem for her; that was 4 years ago. She feels if he should point the finger at someone, he should look in the mirror.

Natalie sees all the wounds on Jesse’s legs, telling him his wounds are not as bad as they look. He says his mother works very hard and she was sleeping when the accident happened and he didn’t want to wake her up. Will reviews the charts about when he saw her. She blames him for handing out the meds like they were candy and he admits he should have been more careful and wants to help her now. She confesses getting high this morning, but nothing should be more important than her son but she is so ashamed about drug use. He tells her that things are going to be okay.

April Sexton (Yaya DaCosta) pulls Crockett Marcel (Dominic Rains) aside, informing him that Ethan Choi (Brian Tee) is returning from deployment tomorrow and she has been agonizing over this for 6 weeks. She struggles over the kiss she shared with Crockett. She feels she needs to tell Ethan but he feels she shouldn’t make herself crazy over this. Noah Sexton (Roland Buck III) joins Marcel as they are called into “Baghdad” when a patient named Alex was involved in a car accident. Marcel tries to reassure him that he is in good hands.

Meanwhile, Natalie goes to see Lynn to give her an update on Jesse, saying things don’t seem to be an infection and scarring should be greatly minimized. Lynn repeatedly asks what she is supposed to do, causing Natalie to bring up concerns with Will, saying she is going to call CPS but Will wants them to commit Jesse to the NICU. Natalie disagrees as will says he needs to do whatever it takes to keep Lynn from losing it. She reminds him that this is just kicking the can as there is no way Lynn will be completely clean in the 48 hours she is giving him.

Daniel sits in his office when Elsa Curry (Molly Bernard) walks in regarding a patient. She brings him the chart, hoping he could speak to a patient, Priya Patel who is on anti-depressants but he feels they need weeks to work and wants her to stick to the prescription. She reminds him of the panic triggers. He thinks it is admirable that she wants to do everything for her patients but he wants her to discharge Miss Patel and have her follow up with someone she finds that would suit her.

April, Marcel, and Noah review their accident patient’s results; Marcel who feels surgery is their only play. April contradicts him, saying he is the surgeon and this is the only play, excusing himself. Will informs Lynn that they are keeping Jesse there and she is defiant. Will says if she tries to remove him, they will be forced to call CPS but she is insistent that this is the only time this has ever happened. He finds out there is no one else they can call as she struggles with the news that he is the only family she has. He suggests a detox protocol and speeding things up with rapid detox. He doesn’t know what else to do to keep the two of them together and she agrees, Will letting her say goodbye to Jesse.

Alex learns they are sticking a camera inside of him, just like when his father needed a new heart valve; his father having a stroke under anesthesia and never woke up. He wants to know from April if this is his only option, and she looks weary.

Will keeps a close eye on Lynn as she begins her detox, something Maggie watches closely; realizing that Lynn’s rapid detox has not been authorized. She reminds him that there is a host of triggers that Lynn will have to overcome. He says he cannot be the reason that Lynn loses her child. In the meantime, Marcel confronts April about Alex backing out of his procedure and he can’t help but wonder if this has to do with Ethan, something she is frustrated about him even asking her about; Noah observes the entire conversation. She simply wants Alex to know his options but Marcel says this is all on her as he doesn’t have many options.

Noah approaches April, asking what is going on between her and Marcel. Maggie asks him if he wants something to do there is a patient who needs stitching. April brings Maggie into another room, admitting she kissed Crockett and it was a mistake; she found out that she may not be able to have a baby even though she and Ethan were trying to have one.

Elsa argues with her patient as Ms. Patel is furious that there is nothing she can do to help her when it comes to her mental health and panic attacks. Elsa says she can try to speak her words into her phone and it makes it into a song when it plays it back to her she will be able to uncouple the words and it won’t be as much of an anxiety thing for her anymore. It disrupts the negative cycle of thinking; suggesting she say anything that stresses her out. She feels stupid and pops her pills as she just wants to get out of the hospital; the gimmick doesn’t work.

Maggie is in her gown as Ben ties it up for her. She feels sad that they cannot go in together. Dr. Singh is there to see Ben, reviewing his blood work and whatever stopped the measles put his cancer in remission. Maggie is so happy for him as he prays and thanks, God. He kisses Maggie and holds her tight, thanking the doctor.

Elsa apologizes for not being able to help Priya, whose throat closes as soon as she exits the ED. She calls for the response team; having no idea why her patient collapsed outside. Dr. Halstead is called into Lynn’s room as she is having a seizure. She is going through withdrawal, they need to protect her airway. Natalie spots Jesse, who is crying out for his mommy, witnessing her having the seizure. April and Noah rush into the room as Alex is having trouble. Marcel deals with his distended belly. He is too unstable and has to go into the hybrid room to open him up.

Elsa tells Daniel her patient had another panic attack but Dr. James Lanik (Nate Santana) ordered repeat labs and so far she is stable. They have no idea on the trigger, as Elsa explains she believes that this is her fault because of the song. He feels the extra antidepressant wouldn’t trigger this and he thinks this might not be panic attacks at all.

Natalie talks to Jesse about his favorite books, to distract him from what is going on with his mother, Lynn. He wants an explanation about why Will was sticking something down his mom’s throat and Natalie is forced to explain about bad habits, like biting nails. Jesse knows his mom has a bad habit that is making her sick and that is why he needs to stay there. He insists he knows how to take care of her and shows Natalie a Narcan pack in his bag, something his mother showed him how to use. He explains that he can take care of her and has done it a few times before, begging them not to take her away from him.

Marcel continues with the surgery, saying he could have saved Alex if he got in there 3 hours earlier; an obvious barb in April. Noah is given the real chance to perform some surgery. Maggie is done her radiation, Ben apologizes for celebrating, saying it was selfish and doesn’t want to celebrate until they both can declare victory. She tells Ben that he gives her hope.

Lynn wakes up, telling Will her throat is sore but overall she doesn’t feel too bad. She is thrilled at how steady her hand is, excited that this detox might work. Unfortunately, Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) arrives with Madeline Gastern (Jodi Kingsley), from CPS. Lynn is informed that Jesse is being taken until her fitness as a parent can be determined, Will is shocked and Lynn is devastated. She feels Will lied to her as he realizes it was Natalie.
Will angrily confronts Natalie who informs him that Jesse told him that this is far direr than Lynn told him. They are in the middle of it when a nurse interrupts them to tell them Lynn left the hospital against medical advice (AMA). Will rushes off.

Marcel informs April that Alex should be fine in about a week; Noah excuses himself as April apologizes for what she did as he was only doing what was best for his patient. She agrees that sometimes people don’t need to know everything and she feels that Ethan doesn’t need to know.

Priya Patel learns that the meds she was taking were making her health worse and she only needed antihistamines. Elsa deletes her app, feeling she was too focused on the app. Daniel reminds her not to be so hard on herself, but she says it is just a gimmick and they cannot just sing away their problems.

April is at home when Ethan returns and she rushes into his arms. He didn’t like how they left things, asking her to sit. He feels they were working too hard to start a family and he apologizes, not wanting things to sound like a briefing. He kneels down, saying he didn’t even know that he loved her and loved her passion and loyalty and doesn’t want to do another six weeks without her in his life. He presents her with an engagement ring and proposes to a very shocked April. She tears up and says before she answers that she needs to tell him something that might change his mind.

She tells him that she got tested and doesn’t know if she can have kids, apologizing. He says that is okay and loves her no matter what and they will figure it out together. He asks her again if that is a yes and she nods, saying YES!

There is a huge party at the bar, where Sharon is happy that Daniel came out. Daniel gets up and he is going to sing at the retirement party, saying that a friend of his told him that you cannot sing away y our troubles and they are about to find out. He sings, looking at the audience.

Natalie finds Will in the lounge but he doesn’t say a word to her as he rushes out of the room. EMTs arrive and Baghdad is called, Will is called and it looks like it is an OD, it turns out to be Lynn, and they desperately try to save her Its been 11 minutes and Will is ordered to pronounce her as Natalie watches from the hall. “Time of death 20:23. I’m sorry!”

THE END!
