Tonight on the CW their new character-driven drama Coroner premieres with an all-new Wednesday, August 5, 2020 episode and we have your Coroner recap below. On tonight’s Coroner season 1 episode 1 called, “Black Dog,” as per the CW synopsis, “When Dr. Jenny Cooper’s (Serinda Swan) life is upended by the untimely death of her husband, she changes her professional focus, becoming the newly appointed coroner in Toronto. As she learns to navigate raising a teenage son on her own, Jenny’s first case affects her personally when she is called to investigate the death of a teen in a youth detention center.”

Jenny is at a swim meet. She watches her son with David, happy. It appears as if David has a stroke. He falls into the pool. Three months later she is at therapy. After, she arrives at a homicide after listening to a tape on anxiety in her care.
On the scene at a facility for troubled juvenile, she is brought to the body of a teen girl who committed suicide. She was just 16, named Danielle. She has been in trouble, recently robbing a convenient store. She is then brought to a cell where another body of a teen boy named Kevin lays. She heads back to where the teen girl was found. The novel, Romeo and Juliet, is brought to her. The police found it on the scene.
Jenny heads back to work and assesses the bodies. She tells the pathologist about the female’s heel abrasion. She thinks it happened before the suicide. The pathologist is annoyed and doesn’t want to look into it.
Mac looks around the facility, asking questions. He learns the guard watching Kevin fell asleep on the job. Meanwhile, Jenny meets with Danielle’s mother who tells her that her daughter seemed happy the last she saw.
Ross, Jenny’s son, comes in the kitchen and notices her new case. She shares a little with him about their suicide. He tells her she has nothing to worry about.
Jenny breaks into her husband’s desk drawer and finds a bunch of foreclosure notices. She begins to cry. Ross comes in. She lies and pretends everything is fine.
Jenny is crying in her car when Mac arrives to head with her to the juvenile facility. Jenny tells him that she thinks something is weird about Danielle’s heel. Jenny thinks it might be a love triangle. She meets with Kevin’s roommate. He admits he was briefly into Danielle.
Mac questions some of the staff and learns there is no video footage they can use. Meanwhile, Jenny is in a circle with some of the kids with Kevin’s roommate. He begins to seize. She Narcan him.
Jenny heads to see the pathologist. She is annoyed he didn’t follow up on any of her concerns. She fires him after learning Danielle had drugs in her system and he released both of the bodies. Jenny heads to see Danielle’s mom. She gets mad and refuses to release her daughter’s body. Jenny gets clever and takes skin from Danielle’s heel at the funeral home instead.
Back at the office, Jenny learns that Kevin’s roommate has fentanyl in his system. She gets a call. She has another body. She heads to the home of an elderly woman. She takes a moment to collect herself inside when a man working on the house asks her if she wants to go get a beer. She agrees.
At the bar, Jenny feels awkward, confessing her husband is dead. He gambled all their money away. She learns the repairman is back from the military. She gets a call from work. He brings her home. They don’t get far. They kiss and spend some time in the back of his truck bed.
Back at juvie, Mac shows Jenny how the staff cuffs kids through the door. He thinks that may have been the way they were killed. They meet with Kevin’s roommate again and ask him who gave him the drugs. He tells them the guards.
Jenny changes all of the teen’s deaths as a homicide. She meets with the parents and shares that Kevin and Danielle were in love. Later that night, Jenny calls in an offer on a smaller home.
