Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers reveal that many fans have been enjoying Emily O’Brien’s run as Gwen so far. Gwen made a strong first impression and is already stirring the pot. This British troublemaker will make more waves after she checks herself out of Bayview during the week of June 15-19.
However, O’Brien originally auditioned for a very different part back in 2018. Could you imagine O’Brien playing the role of Sarah Horton?! Linsey Godfrey ultimately won the battle to portray Sarah, but O’Brien revealed she was a contender in an interview with Soap Opera Digest.
“I went in three times and screen-tested with Greg Vaughan [Eric], but I wasn’t right for that,” O’Brien admitted. “They just envisioned somebody different.” Fortunately, O’Brien got a call from her agent a year later and agreed to read for another Days of Our Lives role.
Of course, there are often twists behind the scenes just like in front of the camera! That’s just the way things are in the soap world. O’Brien ended up not getting that role either, but DOOL still wanted her to be part of the cast. They decided to shape a different character to fit O’Brien instead, so she told the story of how Gwen came to be.
“I remember going in and it was very ominous in the room,” O’Brien said. “[Casting Director] Marnie Saitta and [Co-Executive Producer] Albert Alarr said, ‘Well, we’ve got good news and bad news. The bad news is that you’re not going to be playing this role, but there’s a new role that we want to mold around you.’ That’s when the character of Gwen was born.”
It’s always interesting to hear casting stories and think about how much goes on before someone makes a Days debut. As for Gwen and what kind of person she is, O’Brien called her as “wonderfully unpredictable and volatile.” The DOOL star added that Gwen has no fear and “lives on the edge,” so all of that sounds like a recipe for disaster!
Claire Brady (Olivia Rose Keegan) will certainly face some drama thanks to Gwen – and so will Jake Lambert (Brandon Barash). The same goes for Gabi Hernandez DiMera (Camila Banus), who’ll clash with Jake’s ex-girlfriend right off the bat. Days of Our Lives spoilers say Gwen will really shake up Salem, so stay tuned.
