Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers tease that a new clue has surfaced about Nicole Brady (Arianne Zucker) and Eric Brady’s (Greg Vaughan) future. When Greg Vaughan announced that he was leaving the NBC soap, it naturally sparked questions about Eric’s new marriage.
Nicole and Eric are madly-in-love newlyweds! They’re dealing with their fair share of drama thanks to Sami Brady (Alison Sweeney), but they’re still a team.
Eric and Nicole have turned a corner in their relationship, which means they tackle their challenges together now. It’d be a stretch for “Ericole” to suddenly have catastrophic problems that end in divorce. There’s also no sign of danger or disaster brewing for Eric, so fans have been perplexed about what’s next.
It turns out that although Vaughan is leaving Days, Nicole and Eric will remain happily married for now. DOOL Executive Producer Ken Corday confirmed that in a new issue of Soap Opera Digest, so that’s an intriguing hint. Of course, there should still be an explanation for why Eric is off screen – like taking a new job out of town or something along those lines.
As for Nicole, she’ll have a reason to stay in Salem. Days of Our Lives spoilers say Nicole will grow even closer to Allie Horton (Lindsay Arnold), who’s set to make a comeback soon. There’s a good chance Allie will end up raising her baby after all, but Nicole can certainly serve as a mentor.
Regardless, Allie will be what keeps Nicole busy once Eric makes his onscreen departure. It’s interesting that Days is choosing to take this route with Eric.
In Vaughan’s exit interview with SOD, he admitted the show begged him to stay right up until the very end. Perhaps the writers decided against writing some big exit in hopes that Vaughan would change his mind.
Then again, maybe this was about leaving the door open for return visits. An Eric recast is even a possibility, although Vaughan was told DOOL would always be his home. Still, things can change rapidly in the soap world, so you never really know.
Days writers probably weren’t keen on destroying this marriage so soon, especially since it’d leave Nicole shattered. It’s better to keep Nicole happily in love – even if she’s missing Eric for a while. That way Nicole can be Allie’s rock in the months ahead.
Bottom line, DOOL may have to shift gears and deliver some disaster that ends “Ericole” later, but it’s not happening now. Nevertheless, Eric is indeed exiting, so we’ll give you updates as other departure news comes in.
