Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers tease that fans will ultimately learn how Ava Vitali (Tamara Braun) survived after Joey Johnson (James Lastovic) seemingly suffocated her death.
Joey’s currently in prison for Ava’s murder, but DOOL spoilers confirm Braun will reprise the role in an upcoming story. Ava will return alive and well, so it looks like Dr. Wilhelm Rolf’s (William Utay) back-from-the-dead serum is behind this.
When EJ DiMera (last played by James Scott) was found at a secret warehouse, there were doors with initials on them – like E.D. for EJ DiMera, A.D. for Anthony “Tony” DiMera (Thaao Penghlis), V.A. for Vivian Alamain (Louise Sorel) and more.
Now that all the other doors have been accounted for, it’s time to reveal Ava Vitali as the person behind the remaining A.V. door.
Of course, this means Joey isn’t really a murderer! He did attempt to kill Ava, but the fact that she survived will surely improve Joey’s legal situation. Will Joey finally score his freedom from prison? This seems like the ideal time to put Joey back in the action.
DOOL fans know Joey’s half-brother, Tripp Dalton (Lucas Adams), will be sticking around Salem. We need to see Joey on canvas again, especially once he realizes he didn’t actually kill Tripp’s mom. Steve Johnson (Stephen Nichols) would love having both his sons in his life more regularly.
Kayla Brady (Mary Beth Evans) will obviously be part of this storyline as well, so Ava’s return can tie in plenty of characters and set up some shockers. As for Joey, his name has been mentioned quite a bit lately.
Steve and Kayla recently seemed disheartened by how few visits they get with Joey. They’re definitely missing him, so there’s the potential for Joey to return and shake things up.
It’d be interesting to see how Joey’s time in the slammer has changed him. Naturally, an actor change is possible, too. James Lastovic hasn’t been seen in the role since 2017, so the show might go in another direction.
Then again, it’s possible Lastovic might pop up again – especially if Days only has a short stint in mind. There’s a chance Joey will get out of prison for a brief family reunion and seek a new life elsewhere. It all depends on how Days writers want to take Joey’s portion of the story.
Regardless, it’d be a mistake to ignore Joey and leave him behind bars after Ava shows up alive. It seems likely we’ll see Joey again in some form or at least hear about him scoring his freedom. We’ll pass along updates as other Days news becomes available.
