Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers reveal that Kristian Alfonso is speaking out about her exit decision to leave the role of Hope Brady after 37 years. It turns out Alfonso was given updates on the show’s plans following the shutdown. Alfonso was assured that Hope would eventually get a big storyline with a Navy Seal, but they wanted her to take several months off in the meantime.
It was shocking news for Alfonso, who told Entertainment Tonight she’d already been contemplating the decision to leave over the last few years. When Days Executive Producer Ken Corday explained this extended break to Alfonso, the DOOL actress decided to make it a permanent one. In the end, Alfonso just felt the time was right under the circumstances.
“And at that moment I thought to myself, you know what, it’s time for a change and it was the perfect moment to make that decision,” Alfonso said. The idea of taking Hope off camera for that long definitely came as a surprise to Alfonso. This unexpected development marked a turning point in Alfonso’s way of thinking and pushed her to walk away.
“It was not something that had ever been discussed but that’s what it was, and to come back in five to six months, or four to five months — whatever that time frame was — I just thought, you know what, it’s time to really write a new chapter,” Alfonso insisted.
Since this was a very sudden thing, Alfonso still had more scenes to shoot after the show’s return to production in September. Now Alfonso won’t be filming those, so Hope won’t get any kind of official onscreen exit.
That’s part of why Alfonso chose to come clean about her departure so far in advance. Alfonso wanted to be honest with all the loyal Days of Our Lives fans out there.
“I didn’t want it to be a shock or a surprise when all the sudden, you know, Hope just appears in the attic or she’s off looking for someone or maybe she’s taken a trip or she’s, I don’t know what they would come up with,” Alfonso said.
Alfonso admitted she has no plans to return for guest stints in the future, so it seems she wants a clean break. The Days star was also told the show would never recast Hope, so this is truly the end of the road unless Alfonso changes her mind about popping up again someday.
However, Alfonso’s last scene wasn’t supposed to be her last one, so it sounds like another character will have to fill fans in on where Hope went later. As other DOOL news rolls in, we’ll deliver updates.
