Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers has some news to pass on about when DOOL might be able to begin filming new episodes. Given that the show has historically filmed six months in advance, viewers haven’t been missing their daily dose of DOOL during the production shutdown. But it’s still important for the show to be up and running soon, so that we don’t run out of original content, as has happened on the other three soaps.
Well, Days of Our Lives is filmed in Los Angeles County, and there are reliable reports that the County will formally unveil its guidelines for film and television production at some point today, Thursday, June 11th. It’s reported that Los Angeles County will allow filming to resume as early as Friday, June 12th.
We should note that although the industry may be open to filming starting on Friday, June 12th, that doesn’t necessarily mean that the DOOL cast and crew will be immediately back to work.
It’s going to take time to get the show back up and running, and to make sure that DOOL will be complying with all of the new safety protocols that will be mandated for the industry.
DOOL, along with all other TV shows and films, will have to put a hefty number of safety procedures into place, and that includes things such as COVID-19 testing, temperature screenings, hand-washing stations, social distancing practices, and personal protective equipment.
These things won’t be able to happen instantly, or even quickly, so they will necessarily cause some delays in production.
The process of even getting permits to get back to work could take time. The non-profit organization that handles film permits – FilmLA – is currently saying that it will be reactivating and that it will likely be able to begin accepting applications for filming permits starting on Monday, July 15th.
From there, permits would need to be reviewed and issued, adding more time into the process.
At any rate, it seems that while the industry may be “open to filming” starting tomorrow, that doesn’t mean that filming is going to begin right away. There appear to be a lot of steps in between the industry being “open to filming” and actually filming, such as permit application, permit issuance, testing practices, implementing safety protocols, and so on.
We should note that British and Australian soaps appear to have been ahead of the game when it comes to restarting production, as they were preparing to return during the shutdown. For example, Coronation Street was able to begin filming June 10.
We’ll be sure to keep you up to speed on what’s going on with DOOL production as we hear it. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that production will be up and running soon so that we never have to see an encore episode of DOOL and there is no new-episode gap for viewers!
Stay tuned to the NBC soap, and be sure to keep CDL at the ready for all your latest Days of Our Lives spoilers, daily recaps, and news.
