Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers reveal that the show still has plenty of episodes left to air. DOOL has enough new content to fill airtime through mid-October, but what happens after that? News updates tell us that the cast and crew will hopefully be working again by then, but there might be some set restrictions due to lingering coronavirus concerns. With that in mind, should Days of Our Lives do a COVID-19 storyline?
The situation at Days is a bit different than the other soaps. The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful already ran out of new episodes. General Hospital will run out of originals soon as well, so that’ll leave Days as the lone soap airing in daytime television.
That’s great news for DOOL, but it also means we’ll see the drama to continue to play out in Salem. We won’t see that happening in Genoa City, Port Charles and the fake version of Los Angeles.
It’d be easier for Y&R, GH and B&B to do a COVID-19 reset – at least if they wanted to. Fans may be fuzzy on story details months down the line anyway.
With Days, there may be no programming interruptions if the cast and crew get back on set in time. New episodes will hopefully just keep airing as usual. It’d be a bit jarring to throw COVID-19 in the current stories and try to make things hold together.
Of course, it’ll be hard without COVID-19 as well, but leaving the pandemic out seems like the way to go.
Days of Our Lives has a reputation as the fun soap – the campy, unrealistic one where we can truly get away from the real world. There’s no place for the coronavirus in Salem.
This is a town where Dr. Wilhelm Rolf (William Utay) can bring people back to life and transform characters into villains with microchips. DOOL doesn’t usually go for the realistic stuff to draw viewers in.
Besides, soaps are supposed to be an escape from the overwhelming news and any fears we might have. It’s a time to sit down with characters we love and worry about their problems instead of ours. It’d be a downer to include COVID-19, especially after constant news coverage for so long.
No one can know for sure what’ll be happening on Days when the cast and crew return to set. It’s possible there are already a lot of torn apart couples in the scripts, which would work out well for performers trying to keep their distance.
Regardless, many Days fans would probably vote for leaving the coronavirus out of the drama entirely. What do you think? Should DOOL do COVID-19 storyline or just move ahead with the usual stories as best as they can?
