Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers reveal that one ABC soap alum might make a good addition to the canvas in Salem. General Hospital recently had a massive explosion that led to multiple casualties. One of the characters killed off in the shocking blast was Dustin Phillips, who was played by Mark Lawson.
Lawson is perhaps best known for his work as Brody Lovett on One Life to Live, so he’s got plenty of soap experience. As for dead Dustin on GH, he was a sweetheart of a guy. Lawson really excels at playing a devoted love interest with goodness at his core – someone trustworthy, kind and romantic.
Based on Lawson’s portrayal of Dustin and his overall look, perhaps he’d be a solid choice to play Eric Brady on Days. Greg Vaughan left the role behind earlier this year and doesn’t seem interested in making a lengthy comeback. That’s a problem since Eric and Nicole Brady (Arianne Zucker) are still married!
Days of Our Lives spoilers suggest Nicole may drift in Rafe Hernandez’s (Galen Gering) direction romantically, but that’s not the news many “Ericole” fans want to hear. Nicole and Eric’s love story has brought a gripping, emotional journey for this couple.
They’ve fought through so much to be together, so it doesn’t make sense for Nicole to throw it all away by cheating on the love of her life. It doesn’t make sense for Eric to bail on his family with Nicole and Holly Jonas (Elin Alexander) indefinitely either.
One minute Holly was touching Eric’s heart by calling him “Daddy” and the next Eric’s bailing on her to head back to the Congo! This just isn’t Eric. He wouldn’t stay away for so long and leave his favorite girls missing him so much.
The easy solution here is to recast Eric Brady, though that could bring some mixed reactions among viewers. There’s no denying that Vaughan’s portrayal was awfully special. Vaughan and Zucker’s onscreen chemistry was a big part of “Ericole’s” enduring success, so it’s tough to think about someone replacing Vaughan now.
Even so, Vaughan himself was an Eric recast, so it’s not like this is a new concept for DOOL or any other soap. As we’ve seen with Jennifer Deveraux (Cady McClain), replacements happen and life goes on.
It might not be a bad idea to recast Eric and at least give another actor a shot. Lawson might be a possibility to consider now that he’s done at General Hospital.
