Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers reveal that the end of one marriage seems inevitable. “Ericole” fans were thrilled when Eric Brady (Greg Vaughan) and Nicole Walker (Arianne Zucker) tied the knot earlier this year.
It felt like Nicole and Eric had finally accepted they were meant to be together. The future looked bright for Eric and Nicole, but everything changed when Vaughan decided to leave Days.
Of course, we can’t fault Vaughan for making the decision that was right for him. At the time of his departure, Vaughan was open about not feeling like Eric was a priority. The former DOOL star also wanted to focus on his family, so we respect that choice and know the show must go on.
However, the writing for Eric’s exit left his marriage to Nicole stuck in limbo. With Nicole’s blessing, Eric took off to help the villagers in the Congo. Days of Our Lives spoilers suggest Nicole will eventually start inching in Rafe Hernandez’s (Galen Gering) direction.
Is a cheating story coming up that could offer a more definitive ending for Eric?
It’s not reasonable for Nicole to stay single for what could be years. It also wouldn’t make sense for Eric to abandon Nicole and Holly Jonas (Elin Alexander) for that long.
Days could have Eric’s plane go down on his way home or something, but that’d create a presumed death to undo later. Nicole has already lost one love anyway, so it’d be cruel to make her lose Eric on top of Daniel Jonas (Shawn Christian).
An affair or at least a hookup story would be a better route to take.
Once Rafe is back on canvas, he’ll strengthen his friendship with Nicole as he copes over Hope Brady’s (Kristian Alfonso) exit. Nicole can find some common ground with Rafe as she misses Eric.
Rafe and Nicole will both want to support Allie Horton (Lindsay Arnold) as well, so there’ll be plenty of common ground.
This friendship could easily lead to flying sparks and bring the potential for cheating. Will Nicole surrender to temptation and sleep with Rafe? It seems likely, but the real question is: Will Eric make a brief return as part of this story?
Vaughan didn’t leave the show on bad terms. In fact, they were begging Vaughan to stay right up until the very end! It’s not a stretch to think Days might convince Vaughan to do a short-term visit – mainly to end Eric and Nicole’s marriage.
Perhaps Eric could decide to catch a flight home and surprise Nicole only to get a surprise himself! It’d be awfully soapy if Eric came back to find Nicole in bed with Rafe. Vaughan might score some solid Daytime Emmy reel moments, so it’d be worth the trip.
It would also put this nagging “Ericole” marriage to rest since it can’t continue like this indefinitely. Divorce may be in store for Nicole and Eric, so Vaughan might return to set that in motion. As other Days news and updates emerge, we’ll keep you in the loop.
