Tonight on FOX their blockbuster drama Empire airs with an all-new Tuesday, April 21, 2020, episode and we have your Empire recap below. Andre’s announcement is making his mother feel unsettled. Cookie usually knows what to do in any situation and this time she was stumped. She didn’t know how to stop her son from leaving. Andre has fought his demons and won. He now just wants to be at peace. He was going to do mission work with the church and he thought his parents would accept it. They did not. Cookie looked for ways to stop him from going and she talked about it with her therapist. Her therapist as understanding as she would have hoped. The good doctor pointed out to Cookie that she became the legendary Cookie Lyon by striking out on her own.
She changed from the shy catholic schoolgirl. She went from Loretha to Cookie and she never once looked back. Cookie even had helped to become “Cookie”. It was Lucious who gave her the nickname and the two were still working together. They were working together to stop outsiders from taking over Empire. Kelly Patel was making moves on the company they built from the ground up and so they stopped him. They turned the board against him and Giselle. Both of them were now out. They couldn’t get the company and so Lucious and Cookie’s plan. It also gave them time to talk. Cookie told him about how she’s been viewing the past.
Lucious told her that she was still sweet Loretha. Lucious said “Cookie” was the monster that showed up to protect Loretha and the people Loretha loves. He said Cookie was a force of nature. She realized she was and so she and Lucious bonded. They had a moment. It was a passing moment and it was gone before they knew it, but they still love each other and Lucious was the first one to say it. There was more he should have said. Lucious has been keeping a secret from Cookie and he was finally ready to tell her. He let the moment in the car pass him by and so he later asked Cookie to come over.
Lucious invited her over to the house because he was finally ready to give her the letters. The same letters that he wrote to her while she was in prison and the letters he never sent. The only thing Lucious had ever sent were divorce papers. He kept the letters because he though Cookie needed to be hard to survive in prison and so he chose to hurt her. Cookie had felt so alone when she was locked up. She had to become hard just to get through the day and now she looks back at a prison as something that helped shaped her. Cookie also realized that she went to prison because she had been too scared to invest in herself without him.
Lucious will always want Cookie back. He would take her back within seconds if she had just shown him a sign and so it was Cookie that didn’t want to go there. Cookie wants to put herself for a change. She was going to start a new tv show and she has BossyFest. She’s also worrying about Andre. Andre may have come to his senses. He talked to his brother Hakeem who told him leaving was going to be hard on baby Walker and so Andre chose to stay. He wanted his son to know him. He didn’t want to abandon him and he also needed to fight for his relationship with Teri. Teri was still scared of him right now.
Andre has to show her that he still the man she fell in love with. Andre chose to stay because he wanted to fight for his relationships and it was his brother Hakeem who opened his eyes. Hakeem had his own issues as well. He was married to Maya and they did an interview that went too far. The interviewer brought up how Maya was a product of rape and so it sent her into tears. Hakeem didn’t like seeing that. He shut down the interview. He comforted his wife. He later performed with her at BossyFest and the two had been a hit together. They sounded great together and they looked great together. This marriage may have started out as a sham, but Hakeem was coming to care for his wife and she seemed to care for him too.
BossyFest has been great. Becky even made up with Porsha. She had been mean to her earlier because she was under a lot of stress and she had been doing drugs on top of it. Becky was really messy for a while. She eventually came to see how she was a problem and so she gave Porsha a chance to go out on stage. It was Porsha’s biggest dream. It also helped her forget how horrible Becky was to her and so they became friends again. Porsha was also really great on stage. She sounded amazing and tonight could be the launch of her musical career. And Cookie later went onstage as well.
Cookie introduced herself as Loretha “Cookie” Lyon. She made the introductions for Yana and this was going to be Yana’s last performance in the states because she was going on tour in Europe. This was going to be Yana’s big chance. She was going to build up her fanbase and she has to do it without Lucious. Lucious told her he wasn’t going with her. He tried to tell Yana that he loves her and she does feel like he was telling the truth when he said that. Only Yana also knew that Lucious was still in love with Cookie. She didn’t want to come in second to Cookie or being a stepping stone to Cookie. Yana wanted to be loved for herself and so she was saying a tearful goodbye to Lucious when her father saw them.
Damon made it clear to Lucious that his daughter was off-limits. Lucious said he understood and then he slept with Yana anyways. Lucious had crossed a line. Damon found out and he pulled a gun. He tried to shoot Lucious, but Yana got in the way and unfortunately, Yana died from her injuries. Her own father had murdered her. Damon means to do it and now he blames Lucious for it. He was going to make a move against Lucious. Lucious knew it and he was preparing for it. He added security to his family’s teams. He also wrote a letter meant for Cookie and it was supposed to be his goodbye letter.
Lucious had wanted to take on Damon himself. He figures it might result in his death and so that’s why he wrote the letter. He had wanted Cookie to know how much he still loves her. Cookie read the letter and she decided to stop hiding how much she loves him. Cookie raced to be by Lucious’s side. She went to the house and she found him injured on the floor, but it was minor and she got him help in time. Cookie got Lucious standing on his feet again. They were able to go to the Empire Movie premiere together and for good or bad they were together again.
