General Hospital (GH) spoilers reveal that Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) will try to balance being a good father with all his usual schemes. Valentin’s never going to be a good person, but he knows he needs to set a better example for Charlotte Cassadine (Scarlett Fernandez). Although Valentin may succeed for a while, is there something that could pull Valentin back to the dark side?
Let’s consider the DNA test that supposedly proved Valentin wasn’t really a Cassadine. Valentin was left reeling since he’d always had the Cassadine bloodline, name and legacy.
Although Valentin was forgotten in other ways, he could cling to his Cassadine status. It was something no one could take away from Valentin – that is, of course, until Nikolas Cassadine (Marcus Coloma) did.
Valentin was left reeling when he realized he was Helena Cassadine’s (Constance Towers) illegitimate child. As Martin Gray (Michael E. Knight) tried to offer support, Valentin went on a rant and kicked off his identity crisis. “What am I? I’m a lie!” Valentin exclaimed. “I’m a lie told by the greatest liar who ever lived – Helena Cassadine. My mother.”
However, General Hospital has been known to offer plenty of twists in stories like this one. What if it’s not Helena who lied – at least in this case? Could Nikolas have rigged the DNA test before reclaiming Wyndemere and the Cassadine fortune?
There was certainly a lot at stake for Nikolas, so he surely did everything in his power to make sure he won and Valentin lost. Martin insisted that Valentin’s people had monitored the whole process, but what good is Martin’s word? Martin’s proven that he’s willing to say and do anything for a price.
The same goes for anyone else who was paid to watch over the testing process. Who’s to say Nikolas didn’t promise a far heftier payment in exchange for their cooperation? General Hospital could easily undo this and restore Valentin as a true Cassadine down the road.
Although Helena told the story of her lie, that was simply in Valentin’s head. Valentin envisioned Helena as he worked through what he’d learned and made assumptions. There’s no guarantee that story will stick since Helena isn’t alive to tell her actual version of events.
GH writers have honestly dropped the ball when it comes to Valentin and Nikolas’ feud. Nikolas turned Valentin’s whole world upside down, but they’ve barely interacted since then. General Hospital has an opportunity to really rev up this rivalry if Valentin somehow learns he was duped.
It’s easy to imagine Valentin surrendering to his dark tendencies if that happens. Any plans of being a better man for Charlotte’s sake may fly right out the window. It’d be exciting to see Valentin go after Nikolas for revenge!
