General Hospital Spoilers: Friday, August 14 Recap - Portrait Unveiling Horror - Peter Notices Maxie’s Symptoms

General Hospital (GH) spoilers recap for Friday, August 14, reveal that Elizabeth Baldwin (Rebecca Herbst) and Terry Randolph (Cassandra James) spoke about the rumors swirling around the hospital.

Terry wondered if it was true that Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober) was backing the hospital, and Elizabeth confirmed it. Elizabeth recounted how Lucy Coe (Lynn Herring) had voted with Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) and allowed Cyrus to get a foothold at the hospital.

Terry also wondered why Elizabeth wasn’t at Ava Jerome Cassadine’s (Maura West) portrait unveiling party, and Elizabeth said that Ava has made the evening about the resurrection of the former Franco Baldwin (Roger Howarth), and that she refused to celebrate him.

Meanwhile, at the Floating Rib, Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) and Hamilton Finn (Michael Easton) talked about their wedding, and Anna wondered if Finn was going to invite his father.

That was a sore subject with Finn, who said that inviting his dad wasn’t a good idea, and that they only really communicate through Harrison Chase (Josh Swickard).

Anna wouldn’t give up on the notion, arguing that Violet Finn (Jophielle Love) deserved to have a relationship with her grandfather. Finn continued to balk, and Anna realized that Finn also had a real problem with his stepmother.

Finn didn’t want to discuss it, but Anna wouldn’t let it go, and finally Finn said that he just couldn’t imagine his stepmother at their wedding, and that it would mar the day for him.

Finn tried to explain that it was complicated, but Anna insisted that family was complicated by nature. “Can’t you put it aside for one day for Violet’s sake?” Anna asked.

At Wyndemere, Ava found Nikolas Cassadine (Marcus Coloma) in his room wearing just a towel. Ava got flustered and told Nikolas not to ruin this night for her, then she rushed off.

Down in the living room, Franco talked with Scott Baldwin (Kin Shriner), who wondered where Elizabeth was. Franco lamented that Elizabeth wanted to pretend that his past never happened at all.

Meanwhile, Maxie Jones (Kirsten Storms), Lucy, and Peter August (Wes Ramsey) entered the castle, followed shortly by Lulu Spencer (Emme Rylan) and Dustin Phillips (Mark Lawson).

Lulu quietly asked Maxie if Peter still didn’t know about the pregnancy, and Maxie said no. Jasper “Jax” Jacks (Ingo Rademacher) and Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros) arrived in the living room, followed by Ava and Nikolas.

Ava spoke privately with Franco, saying that it’s a shame that Elizabeth couldn’t make it. Nikolas walked up and mentioned Spencer Cassadine (Nicolas Bechtel), causing Franco to snark about Nikolas lying to his kid for three years.

Nikolas callously brought up Kiki Jerome (Hayley Erin), causing Ava to rush off, followed by Franco.

Maxie and Lulu talked on the parapet, and Lulu wondered if Maxie was on the fence about having the baby. Maxie said that the timing was wrong, and that she wasn’t sure if Peter even wanted to be a father.

Elsewhere, Jax mused to Nina that Valentin had made a smart business move by getting leverage at Deception and securing Lucy’s vote.

Elizabeth suddenly showed up in the living room, telling Nikolas that she changed her mind about coming. Elizabeth and Nikolas took off for the parapet to look for Franco and Ava.

Turns out, Franco and Ava were in the sables talking, and Ava revealed her post-nuptial deal with Nikolas. Franco was stunned. Ava started to feel badly about keeping Spencer and Nikolas apart.

Back up on the parapet, Nikolas and Liz failed to find Franco and Ava, so they chatted for a moment. Elizabeth praised Nikolas for being willing to bail out the hospital.

Elizabeth shared that Cyrus was the new hospital board chairman, and Nikolas was horrified. Elizabeth and Nikolas started getting close, and Elizabeth stopped the conversation, wanting to go find Franco.

Elsewhere, Peter and Dustin chatted as Dustin rejected a call from Brook Lynn Quartermaine (Briana Lane). Dustin and Peter talked briefly about kids, and Peter said that he had never wanted children until Maxie came into his life.

Back inside, Scott berated Lucy for voting with Valentin against the ELQ hospital funding, and Lucy felt terribly but still justified her decision.

Scott was fussing at Lucy when Maxie and Peter walked up. Maxie heard for the first time what Lucy did and she was peeved. Jax walked up and pulled Lucy away for a conversation about how terrible Cyrus is, and how he nearly got Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy) killed. Lucy got all flustered.

Elizabeth finally found Franco in the stables with Ava, and Ava took off. Franco was touched that Elizabeth changed her mind and came and Elizabeth said that she thought she’d stand by Franco tonight. Franco beamed. Back inside the castle, Maxie had a moment of dizziness, which Peter noticed. Maxie said she was fine.

Ava and Nina talked on the parapet briefly, with Ava lamenting about how she was hurting both Nikolas and Spencer. And up in Nikolas’ bedroom, Nikolas confided in Lulu about his deal with Spencer.

Lulu was enraged that Nikolas would enlist his son in a scheme against Ava. A major argument ensued before Lulu stormed out.

Back downstairs, Maxie told Lucy that she should leave, since she’s not the best brand ambassador right now for Deception. Lucy fired back that Maxie might want to leave, too, since she looked peaked.

Peter pulled Maxie aside and said that she did look a little pale. Maxie avoided the comment, rushing over to Franco and berating him for supposedly changing but being here and reliving his bad boy days.

Maxie and Peter walked off, and Elizabeth said that Maxie had a point and that she was leaving, and that Franco should come with her. Nina and Ava continued their discussion, with Ava still feeling bad about keeping Nikolas and Spencer from reconciling.

Nina shared that she never found her big revenge on Valentin to be satisfying. Ava said she knew what she had to do.

Peter seemed troubled by Maxie’s rant against Franco, but he was more concerned with Maxie’s condition. Peter insisted that Maxie tell him what was going on – the nausea, dizziness. “Talk to me,” Peter said. “Are you ok?”

Finally, it was time for the portrait unveiling to begin. Everyone gathered in the living room, and Elizabeth asked Franco if he was leaving with her or not. Franco wouldn’t leave, and Ava said a few words, then introduced Franco.

Franco walked up to the covered portrait, and Ava asked him to unveil it. Franco did, and everyone looked horrified as they gazed at the portrait.
