General Hospital (GH) spoilers for Friday, July 17, tease that some explosive arguments are coming up. This GH encore originally aired on May 5, 2020, it’s filled with clashing! General Hospital fans may want to do a rewatch, so here’s the scoop on this fun episode.
At Wyndemere, Franco Baldwin (Roger Howarth) pushes Ava Cassadine (Maura West) to open up about what went down with Nikolas Cassadine (Marcus Coloma). Ava recaps how Nikolas insisted she drove Kiki Jerome (Hayley Erin) away. Nikolas brought Avery Corinthos (Ava and Grace Scarola) into the fight as well, so Franco thinks this is a toxic marriage with no respect.
Ava refuses to divorce Nikolas and lose the Cassadine fortune, but Franco feels there’s a deeper reason for this marriage. When Franco suggests Ava’s punishing herself over Kiki’s death, Ava lashes out at him. Franco feels like maybe this marriage is a way for Ava to avoid her grief, so Ava snaps that he should just go back to being a psychopath.
Talk turns to Ava exploiting Franco as the bad boy of the art world, but Ava argues that talent only gets you so far. Franco did some serious damage, but he made tons of money because of it.
Ava gets updates on Franco’s recent conflict with Elizabeth Baldwin (Rebecca Herbst), so she provides some guidance. Ava hopes Franco will put it to good use so she can feel like she did something right.
After Ava plants a kiss on Franco’s cheek, she assures him he helped more than he knows. Next, Nikolas gives Liz the news about Spencer Cassadine’s (Nicolas Bechtel) letter and demand.
Liz is excited over what she sees as a get-out-of-jail-free card for Nik, but he argues it’s not that simple. Nikolas doesn’t want to give up his fortune and doesn’t think Spencer truly understands what it’d be like to lose it.
Liz encourages Nikolas to call Spencer and talk to him about this tricky situation, but Nikolas isn’t keen on the idea. Elizabeth is also concerned that Nikolas might have genuine feelings for Ava, but he denies it.
Once the subject changes to whatever’s bothering Liz, she admits she fought with Franco. When Nikolas finds out Franco said Liz wasn’t a real artist, he thinks that’s preposterous.
While Nikolas gives Liz a pep talk, Kristina Corinthos (Lexi Ainsworth) drags Sam McCall’s (Kelly Monaco) relationship with Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) through the mud.
Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn) and Molly Lansing-Davis (Haley Pullos) are horrified as Kristina rants about the “danger junkies.” Kristina feels Jason would die for Sam, but he can’t live with her.
Sam contends that she wants a calm, simple life with Jason, but obstacles keep getting in the way. Kristina disagrees and argues that they aren’t happy without drama. She thinks Sam’s decision to sneaky around and risk violating parole is proof of that.
Over with Nelle Benson Archer (Chloe Lanier), she has a meeting with Martin Gray (Michael E. Knight). The topic of Michael Corinthos’ (Chad Duell) split from Sasha Gilmore (Sofia Mattsson) comes up, so Nelle wants Martin to use it in court. Martin notes that it’d bring the focus to Nelle’s former flames – and many of them are dead.
Nelle brushes that off and whines about crying herself to sleep every night without the “love of her life” Shiloh Archer (Coby Ryan McLaughlin). Martin shifts gears and lets Nelle know she needs a character witness.
Since Michael will have plenty of people in his corner, Nelle needs at least one person who’ll testify on her behalf. Martin hopes Nelle can find someone who isn’t in prison.
Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright) finds Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros), who’s at Crimson with Jasper “Jax” Jacks (Ingo Rademacher). When Carly pushes for info she can use against Nelle, Nina insists she doesn’t have any. Nelle’s been a great employee, and Nina feels it’d be best for Nelle to share custody with Michael.
Carly scoffs over Nelle winning Nina over, but Nina doesn’t see it like that. She thinks Nelle is someone who’s trying to be a better person, but Carly rants that Nelle’s just a pathological liar.
When Nina tries to compare Nelle’s history to Carly’s, Jax pipes up about that not being fair. Carly strikes a blow by suggesting that Nina can’t understand motherhood since she’s not actually a mother.
Carly realizes she’s gone too far and offers an apology, but she stands by what she’s said about Nelle. On her way out the door, Carly passes by Nelle and makes it clear that she thinks Nelle will betray Nina.
Back in Nina’s office, she tells Jax that Nelle was genuinely vulnerable with her. Nina feels like she can bring out the best in Nelle and give her the chance she needs.
Nelle overhears part of the discussion before interrupting. Jax takes that as his cue to exit, which leaves Nelle to thank Nina. Nelle appreciates how Nina stood up for her, but Nina warns that Nelle had better not make her regret it.
Nelle brings up a favor she’d like to ask for and drops the character witness bomb. She’s hoping Nina will come to court and testify on her behalf.
