General Hospital (GH) spoilers tease that Neil Byrne’s (Joe Flanigan) murder is once again a mystery. Jordan Ashford (Briana Nicole Henry) showed up to accuse Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober) of killing Neil – and she had every reason to think he was guilty. After all, everything related to drugs right now tends to be connected to Cyrus.
There’s also the matter of Neil’s overdose looking a lot like what happened with Jordan’s former team members, Bob Massicotte (Randy J. Goodwin) and Mark Simon. In both cases, they overdosed despite no prior signs of drug use. It was reasonable for Jordan to assume Cyrus was to blame, even after he denied it.
However, Cyrus made a phone call that pointed to his innocence once he was alone. That phone call let fans know Cyrus wasn’t sure whether the drugs were connected to him or not. When Cyrus sets out to kill someone, he doesn’t usually have to wonder about the details!
It certainly looks like someone else was the reason for Neil’s demise. Despite what Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn) currently believes, there’s obviously more to the story here. Who plotted Neil’s murder? Neil’s ex-wife, Deidre Byrne, comes to mind as a potential suspect.
Deidre and Neil lost their daughter, Joanna Byrne, to suicide after she got caught up in a cult that dealt with drugs. It’s easy to imagine Deidre being so grief-stricken that she still blamed Neil. There was clearly tension in their marriage since they ended up divorcing.
Deidre may not have wanted to see Neil happy with Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn) since she was so unhappy herself. She might’ve felt like Neil didn’t mourn their daughter the way she did, even though that’s far from the truth. Deidre could’ve decided to make it look like Neil overdosed and force him to face the same miserable fate as Joanna.
After Neil and Alexis went on their drag bingo date, someone had to rat them out to the medical board in the first place. We’re talking about when Neil realized he’d have to wait two years to date Alexis. Who was the person who blabbed about Alexis and Neil? Was it Deidre?
Maybe Deidre’s been sabotaging Neil’s love life and finally just murdered him since he was about to kick off his future with Alexis. Kim Delaney has been cast in a mysterious role on General Hospital, so she might be an option to play this vengeful Deidre.
It’s wise to consider all possibilities when you’re dealing with a murder mystery! GH fans will be eager to get more clues. We’ll offer updates as other GH news rolls in.
