General Hospital (GH) spoilers reveal that there’s an important question to consider as we await the custody battle outcome. It seems likely Nelle Jerome (Chloe Lanier) will at least end up with shared custody of Wiley Quartermaine-Corinthos (Erik and Theo Olson), so Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell) may be forced to coparent. With that in mind, we have to wonder: Is Nelle capable of being a good mom?
Right now, Nelle clearly knows nothing about being a mother. However, Nelle’s never had anyone to show her that nurturing side and offer unconditional love. It’s not surprising that Nelle isn’t showing off any maternal instincts at this point. Nelle’s mainly focused on keeping Wiley away from her enemies, especially Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright).
Of course, it’s tough to say Nelle’s completely wrong for hating Carly. Nelle has certainly done her fair share of terrible things to Wiley’s grandma, but Carly’s done terrible things right back. GH fans know this has become a vicious cycle that they just can’t break.
Carly locked Nelle on the roof in the freezing cold while Nelle’s child had a surgery she didn’t sign off on. When Carly presented the idea of a compromise, her version of that was full custody for Michael and visitation for Nelle. As if Nelle could even count on them to give it!
Naturally, we’re not giving Nelle a pass here. This is a woman who tried to kill Wiley’s father and let him believe his son was dead until the truth was forced out. Not to mention all the setups, “hauntings” and false accusations Nelle has piled on Carly herself.
Carly has valid reasons for her concerns and there’s probably no hope of her ever reconnecting with Nelle.
Nelle felt like Carly should’ve been there for her as a sister when they were younger, but it seems like Nelle was really looking for a mother figure. Luckily, Nelle has an actual mother in Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros). General Hospital spoilers say Nelle will eventually learn Nina is her bio mom, so will that change anything?
Since Nina’s perhaps the most nurturing soul in Port Charles, it just might. If anyone can teach Nelle had to be a good mother, it’s Nina. In fact, Nina might be Nelle’s only hope at truly turning her life around. It’s just a matter of tearing down Nelle’s manipulative walls and showing her what it means to put Wiley first.
