General Hospital (GH) spoilers reveal that Nelle Benson Jerome (Chloe Lanier) has been laid to rest. Nelle’s body was found on the now infamous Pennsylvania side of the river and positively identified before her burial. All that said, what’s the REAL story? Is Nelle secretly alive or gone forever?
We’d say there’s almost zero chance this is the true end of Nelle. This is one of the craftiest characters around. No matter how bleak things look, Nelle always finds a way to come back and inflict more misery.=[[[
There’s a good chance that’s why Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright) can’t seem to shake Nelle at this point. Carly was unsettled as she talked to Jason about her nightmares and overwhelming sense of dread. Although Carly wants to put Nelle behind her and move on, she admitted it doesn’t feel like Nelle’s done with her yet.
Carly even had that creepy scene where she imagined Nelle reaching up from beyond the grave. That wasn’t real, so it felt more like an ominous sign of what’s to come. General Hospital is setting the stage for Nelle to pull off her most shocking trick yet: returning from the dead.
The truth of the matter is that the story works best without Nelle right now. Nelle needs to be dead so Carly can worry about going down for Nelle’s murder.
We’re also awaiting that heartbreaking moment where Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros) realizes the child she’s been desperately searching for is the deceased former employee she stabbed in the back.
As for the circumstances of Nelle’s cliff fall, Nina can accuse Carly of murdering her daughter and covering it up with Jasper “Jax” Jacks (Ingo Rademacher). This is the kind of story that’ll just keep snowballing until it all comes to a head and Carly is potentially facing prison.
Then – and only THEN – can Nelle make her comeback in grand fashion and shake things up all over again.
GH writers would be wasting a ton of story if they let Nelle return now, but they’d be wasting just as much story if she didn’t return later! Love her or hate her, Nelle is a character that can really stir the pot and keep hot plots moving along.
Nelle is also heavily tied to the Corinthos clan – the most prominent family on the show. General Hospital has to find ways to keep Carly, Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) and Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell) front and center as usual, so Nelle’s incredibly useful.
GH fans never saw Nelle’s body, which was highly suspicious. It seems safe to say Carly will be haunted by Nelle in the flesh down the road! Chloe Lanier is an excellent actress who seems poised to return as Nelle eventually.
