General Hospital (GH) spoilers has some great news to pass on about a wonderful event that will be happening tonight, Saturday, May 9th at 8pm Eastern on YouTube and Facebook. It’s the “Daytime Cares: A Live Event” and it’s where Daytime TV actors past and present will come together for a live variety show to honor and uplift fans during the COVID-19 crisis.
The event will be hosted by Laura Wright (Carly Corinthos, GH) and The Locher Room host Alan Locher. “Daytime Cares: A Live Event” will be presented with an organization called Daytime Cares, which is a daytime television community that spotlights nonprofit organizations offering COVID-19 support and resources. Daytime Cares is run by Arianne Zucker (Nicole Walker, DOOL) and Shawn Christian (Daniel Jonas, DOOL).
The variety show will run for at least two hours and will feature loads of daytime stars, both past and present. Laura Wright was recently interviewed by TV Insider and shed some light on what the evening’s performances would entail, and it sounds like something that daytime fans will not want to miss.
Laura revealed in the interview that Bradford Anderson (Damian Spinelli, GH) and Steve Burton (Jason Morgan, GH) will do a comedy routine, while Cynthia Watros (Nina Reeves, GH) will do a breathing exercise to de-stress viewers. Jordi Vilasuso (Rey Rosales, Y&R) will talk about his personal experience having had coronavirus, and Wally Kurth (Justin Kiriakis, DOOL; Ned Quartermaine, GH) will be singing.
Also joining the event will be Kim Zimmer (Reva Shayne, GL), Robert Newman (Josh Lewis, GL), Kyle Lowder (Rex Brady, DOOL), and Wes Ramsey (Peter August, GH), who will read his poetry for the live audience. Linsey Godfrey (Sarah Horton, DOOL) will participate as well, sharing some of her humor and tribulations in having a young child at home during the quarantine.
It sounds like it’s going to be a great event, and Laura Wright promises that this will be more of a raw event rather than a smoothly produced TV show. “This won’t be a polished TV show,” Laura said to TV Insider. “It’s going to be us in our homes…No one is going to go and get their hair and makeup done like they would if this were being done at a studio. We want our fans to know that we’re approachable and to let them know they’re loved.”
Laura also reports that part of the focus for the show will to have fans share their stories as well, including some moms who are trying to work from home and also teach their kids via homeschooling. It will be interesting to see how the actors and hosts incorporate fan response into the live show.
At any rate, it looks like the “Daytime Cares: A Live Event” will be a wonderful experience for the actors and soap fans to get together and enjoy a shared experience during the coronavirus quarantine.
