General Hospital (GH) spoilers recap for Monday, August 31, reveal that Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros) talked with Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) outside of Kelly’s. Nina was wearing her half-heart pendant, and Valentin observed that Nina was thinking about her child.
Nina said that the not knowing is what hurt the most, and Valentin said that he hated what he did to add to Nina’s pain.
Inside Kelly’s, Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco) talked via phone with Jason Morgan (Steve Burton). Jason updated Sam on how he got sidetracked as he was out searching for Wiley Quartermaine Corinthos (Erik and Theo Olson).
Jason said he’d explain at Sam’s place, and that he’d grab some things from his apartment and head home for good. Sam was thrilled.
Sam walked outside and noticed Valentin sitting with Nina. Sam proceeded to bash Valentin for leaving out some key details when he bargained for her kids’ ELQ proxies.
Nina listened intently as Sam said that Valentin opened up GH to a drug trafficker. Sam then revealed Valentin’s motive for kicking Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell) out of the CEO spot, which was payback for Michael helping Sasha Gilmore (Sofia Mattsson) when she was posing as Nina’s daughter.
This all rubbed Nina the wrong way, and soon talk turned to Nina’s new search for her child. Valentin wasn’t pleased to hear that Jasper “Jax” Jacks (Ingo Rademacher) was helping Nina with her search, and he thought it was impossible that Jax could have a new lead.
Valentin said that he had exhausted every lead previously, and Nina said that maybe she and Jax would succeed where Valentin failed.
At the cabin, Valerie Spencer (Paulina Bugembe) questioned Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright) about what happened in the woods with Nelle Benson Jerome (Chloe Lanier).
Carly told the truth about how she caught up to Nelle and fought with her in the clearing, and how Nelle assaulted her and then ran off. But Carly didn’t reveal the rest of the story. Valerie asked if Nelle was wounded, and Carly said that she might have scratches.
Carly and Jax then took off, with Carly promising to give a full statement tomorrow at the station. Valerie vowed that she wouldn’t stop until she found Nelle and brought her to justice.
Carly and Jax went outside, and Jax said that Carly did the right thing. “Do not admit to being on the cliff when Nelle fell,” Jax urged. Jax also said that Carly shouldn’t tell Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) or Michael any of this. Carly was upset but agreed.
At Turning Woods, Sonny visited with Mike Corbin (Max Gail), who was virtually catatonic. Sonny talked to Mike and took his hand, saying that he apologized for passing judgment and not spending time with him as an adult.
Mike then squeezed Sonny’s hand and looked at him for a moment, then went back to being catatonic. Sonny was touched.
Sonny then told his father that if he wanted to rest, it was up to him. “I don’t want you sticking around for me,” Sonny said. “I’ll be fine, the family will be fine. You do what you need to do.
You deserve that.” Later, Carly arrived and learned about Sonny and Mike’s moment. Sonny asked what happened with Nelle, and Carly simply said that Nelle got away.
At the Quartermaine mansion, Michael and Willow Corinthos (Katelyn MacMullen) discussed Brook Lynn Quartermaine (Briana Lane), and Michael relayed that Brook Lynn told him about the tracker on Wiley.
Willow felt like talking, and she apologized for not being with Michael at the police station. Michael learned that Sasha had come by, and Willow learned that Nelle had hit Michael over the head with a vase.
Willow got an ice pack for Michael’s head, and Michael assured Willow that it was over and that they were safe. Michael and Willow held hands, and then Michael leaned in for a kiss.
Right afterwards, the doorbell rang, and it was Valerie, who wanted to give Michael an update on the search for Nelle. Willow went upstairs, and after Valerie took off, Willow came back downstairs and locked eyes with Michael, who was at the bottom of the stairs.
Back at Kelly’s, Nina and Valentin were still arguing when Jax walked up and updated Nina on Wiley being safe and Nelle getting away. Valentin took off, and Nina relayed that Valentin objected to them searching for her child.
Nina said that she wouldn’t listen to Valentin, and that she knew her necklace was the key to finding her child.
Out in the woods near the cabin, an officer searched the scene with a flashlight. As he walked along, he walked right by Nelle’s half-heart necklace lying on the ground, missing it completely.
At Sam’s place, Jason arrived and gave Sam a big hug, then told Sam all about finding Marcus Taggert (Réal Andrews) on Pier 55. Sam was stunned, but she and Jason soon got interrupted by Danny Morgan (Porter Fasullo), who came downstairs and learned that his dad was home to stay.
Danny was thrilled, and Sam and Jason let him stay up late to play a video game with Jason.
At Alexis Davis’ (Nancy Lee Grahn) house, Neil Byrne (Joe Flanigan) asked Alexis if she wanted to see him as much as he wanted to see her. After a little back and forth about the loss of their respective jobs, Neil said that he missed her, and that he wanted to be friends again.
“That’s not what I’d like,” Alexis said. Neil’s face fell, but then Alexis said that she wanted to be a whole lot more than friends.
Neil and Alexis agreed to see where this went, and Neil mentioned taking things slowly. “Who said anything about slow?” Alexis said. Neil and Alexis agreed that they should enjoy this time together.
Later, after they had made love, Neil and Alexis talked happily, and Neil agreed to spend the night. Neil and Alexis talked about their future and their new careers. Neil quipped that he always wanted to be a personal chef, and Alexis mused about being a professional poker player.
Neil and Alexis agreed that they were looking forward to the future. Night turned into morning, and Alexis brought Neil coffee in bed. Neil was asleep, and Alexis talked happily to him, then she touched his foot and it was cold. Alexis tried to wake Neil, but he appeared to be dead.
