General Hospital (GH) spoilers recap for Monday, November 2, reveal that Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright) and Bobbie Jones (Jacklyn Zeman) wished Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy) a very happy 18th birthday at the Corinthos house.
Josslyn mentioned that she was meeting Trina Robinson (Sydney Mikayla) at the gallery for a Historical Society exhibit, and Carly gushed that it was Josslyn’s first Election Day.
Josslyn said that she’d go vote if she had time, and Carly and Bobbie were a bit shocked and they told Josslyn that every vote matters. Bobbie explained to Josslyn that her great-great grandmother Beatrice Eckert voted in 1920 – the first time that women got to vote in the presidential election.
After a bit of discussion, Josslyn took off and Carly and Bobbie hoped that they got through to her.
At the Jerome Gallery, Trina and Portia Robinson (Brooke Kerr) talked briefly and were greeted in short order by Jordan Ashford (Briana Nicole Henry), who mentioned that she just saw Ava Jerome Cassadine (Maura West) at the polls.
Trina made a crack about voting in competent public officials, which was clearly directed at Jordan.
Elsewhere in the gallery, Lucy Coe (Lynn Herring) and Monica Quartermaine (Leslie Charleson) bickered over candles, with Lucy rummaging through a box to find some real candles to light for ambiance.
Soon, Josslyn came in and greeted Trina, and the girls talked about their relatives who worked hard for women’s rights back in the day. Trina was more serious about voting than Josslyn, who doubted that one vote could make a difference.
Nearby, Lucy took a candle that said “TIME” on the bottom and lit it. Josslyn and Trina stepped into a model of an old-time voting booth and manipulated the lever together.
Suddenly, Josslyn and Trina were transported back in time, and they ended up in Wellington Square in Port Charles on November 2, 1920. Josslyn and Trina were dressed in old-time clothes and they eventually figured out that they somehow traveled back in time.
Suddenly, Carly appeared and introduced herself as Beatrice Eckert, followed shortly by Portia, who was introduced to the girls as Dr. Pricilla Johnson. Trina and Portia (as Pricilla) talked about the struggle of women of color, and Carly (as Beatrice) talked with Josslyn.
Other familiar faces from modern-day Port Charles were there as well, including Anna Devane (Finola Hughes), Elizabeth Baldwin (Rebecca Herbst), and Jordan.
Soon, news got around that the women’s polling center was padlocked shut because the bank foreclosed on the building, and it was all orchestrated by the banker boss of Bertha Halifax, who was actually Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud). It was all a ploy to keep the women of Port Charles from voting.
A woman named Ada Hook (who was actually Ava) materialized as well, and she was against women voting.
Well, as it turned out, Beatrice (Carly) was thrown in jail for scuffling with Ada (Ava), and Josslyn and Trina wanted to find a way to get Beatrice (Carly) out of jail so she could vote.
Josslyn and Trina ended up being helped by Lexi Brighton, who was actually Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn) and the head of the temperance union. Lexi (Alexis) got an assemblywoman (Monica) to finagle a way to get Beatrice (Carly) out of jail.
As all this was going on, Trina had a nice talk with Ada (Ava) and convinced her that women should have the right to vote. All the women went to the polling place to vote together, but Bertha (Britt) was standing in front of the padlocked women’s polling place telling the women to go home to their husbands.
Beatrice (Carly) got on a soapbox and gave all the women an inspirational speech about how women belong everywhere, including at the polls.
Shortly after, the women broke the lock to the polling place and went inside to cast their votes. And by this time, Josslyn had a new appreciation for voting. “I understand now,” Josslyn said. “Voting is a privilege – the least and the most we can do as citizens.”
Josslyn and Trina decided to try to go back to modern-day Port Charles by going into a booth and pulling the lever. And with that, they were transported back to the Jerome Gallery.
Josslyn and Trina immediately encountered Lucy, who saw that her candle was blown out. Lucy then saw that she lit the “TIME” candle and freaked out, saying that she lit the wrong candle. Lucy explained that the candle had special properties, and she rushed off.
Josslyn and Trina decided it was time to go vote, and they headed to the polling place, where Britt, Portia, Elizabeth, Carly, Bobbie, and others were there voting.
After they cast their ballots, Josslyn talked to Carly and Bobbie and said that the experience was gratifying, empowering, and humbling. Carly and Bobbie were thrilled for Josslyn and they congratulated her for voting for the first time.
