General Hospital (GH) spoilers tease that the ABC soap has some crucial secrets to reveal. GH fans know Nelle Benson Jerome (Chloe Lanier) is Nina Reeves’ (Cynthia Watros) biological daughter, but there are still some mysteries left to unravel. Here are three burning questions GH needs to answer about the half-heart pendant necklace and its match.
1) Why did Nelle still end up with a half-heart pendant?
Since Nelle didn’t grow up knowing Nina was her mom, why did she still end up with this pendant? Nelle was clearly stolen as a baby, so that pendant could’ve been taken away and tossed out. Frank Benson let Nelle keep it for some reason; she was even seen wearing it in those newly created flashbacks with Young Nelle (Willa Rose).
Why did Frank let Nelle keep this piece of jewelry? There could be a few reasons. For starters, Frank liked to pretend he was a doting dad despite being truly terrible.
For example, Frank assured Nelle she could go to the fancy school she wanted once they had the money from her kidney. Instead, Frank gambled all the money away and lied that Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright) had stiffed him.
Perhaps Frank gave Nelle this necklace thinking it somehow made up for his shortcomings as a father. Of course, the flashbacks also showed us that Nelle was a bit of a pest. Frank urged her to just have a cookie when there was no cereal, so he seemingly just did whatever to placate his annoying kid. Maybe Nelle found the necklace and irritated Frank until he let her wear it.
2) What story does Nelle believe about the necklace?
That brings us to the story behind this necklace. It has to be significant to Nelle or else she wouldn’t be holding it as a good luck charm in court. Nelle thinks there’s some sort of meaning here, but she undoubtedly just believes whatever Frank told her. What did Frank claim about that half-heart pendant?
Frank might’ve told Nelle it was from the woman she currently believes is her deceased mother. Then again, Frank might not have said much at all. Nelle could just be inexplicably drawn to this pendant she found as a child.
It could be something she’s always been fond of without really knowing why. Either way, this half-heart pendant is quite important to Nelle.
3) Why Did Willow seem to recognize Nina’s half-heart pendant?
We should also mull over how Willow Corinthos (Katelyn MacMullen) might fit in all this. Willow seemed like she recognized Nina’s necklace when she first saw it. That leaves the door open for some big twists in this storyline.
It’s possible it was just a fake-out before the Nelle reveal, but Willow’s reaction does present the possibility of a shocker.
What if Willow indeed had a necklace half once upon a time – perhaps the one that wound up back with Nina? General Hospital has the prime setup for a twin storyline if that’s the way they want to take things.
They could also save Willow in case they want to rewrite her as Nina’s true daughter at some point. Nelle is definitely the bio daughter for now, but anything can happen down the road!
