General Hospital (GH) spoilers has some news to pass on about when production of new GH episodes the ABC soap will resume. As GH viewers know, the show is still currently airing new episodes, with Fridays designated for encore episodes. But soon, within the next few weeks, ABC will run out of new General Hospital episodes, in the same way that CBS has now run out of new episodes of B&B and Y&R.
Right now, there’s no word on exactly how long ABC’s new episodes of GH will last, but it’s reasonable to assume that the network probably doesn’t have more than a few more weeks’ worth of episodes. That means that we could start seeing ABC’s GH programming turn exclusively to encore episodes, as has happened with B&B and Y&R.
And what about the production of new episodes? When will that resume? Well, recently William Lipton, who portrays Cameron Webber on the show, did a live stream in which he stated that GH is tentatively planning to start filming again in August. If that’s the case, then it’s great that there’s a plan in place. However, it’s unfortunate that it will be 3 months from now when production resumes.
After William made the comment on his live stream, Brett Vickerman shared the news with his Twitter followers. Brett said: “William Lipton just mentioned on his live stream that they’re tentatively planning on starting filming for #GH again in August. I think that’s the first we’ve heard any sort of news about that! #GeneralHospital”
If that’s the case, then then one wonders how the show will handle things like the Nurses’ Ball, which typically happen in the summer. Perhaps this year’s Nurses’ Ball will occur off-screen and viewers won’t see the action – or there could even be flashbacks to the ball, which would allow viewers to see some of the performances.
One wonders, too, about how the show will handle the long time gap – will they just pick up the action right where it left off, or will there be a time gap with flashbacks explaining what happened in the interim?
By the time filming resumes, it will be presumably autumn in Port Charles, so the show will have to figure out some way to skim over the summer, it would seem.
At any rate, that’s what we know right now about GH’s schedule. Of course, we should note that William Lipton was said to state that they were tentatively planning to start filming in August, so that doesn’t sound like it’s a done deal at this point.
The COVID-19 situation is constantly evolving, so you never know what could happen. Hopefully GH will return to filming new general hospital episodes before August 2020.
