General Hospital (GH) spoilers tease that Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) will have to make peace with losing his father Mike Corbin (Max Gail). When we last saw Sonny, he was trying to come to grips with this looming loss. It’s tough for Sonny to let go, but that’s exactly what Sonny will have to do when new episodes return.
Based on how GH left things, it doesn’t seem like they can drag this storyline out any longer. Mike is truly reaching the end of the road. General Hospital has played every beat of this storyline they could possibly play. All that’s left for Mike to do is die, so that final step should be coming up soon enough.
Of course, Max Gail is 77 and that puts him in a high-risk age group for filming, but 76-year-old John McCook (Eric Forrester on B&B) has insisted that he’ll still be part of new stories on The Bold and the Beautiful. As long as safety protocols are followed closely, Gail can perhaps wrap up the last stage of this story arc.
GH can’t shoot a big funeral scene, but fans might just see Sonny coming home from the gathering with Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright) or something along those lines. Regardless of how General Hospital handles all this, Mike’s death indeed seems to be the next major blow coming up for Sonny.
Since GH has put some serious work into making this such a gripping storyline, they’ll undoubtedly want to give it a satisfying conclusion. Could Mike appear to Sonny after he passes away? One reason Sonny’s been struggling so much is that there’s so much left to say. Although Sonny’s grateful that he had more time with his father, they still lost a lot of years to estrangement.
After Oscar Nero Quartermaine’s (Garren Stitt) death, Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy) saw a vision of him at the Nurses Ball. Oscar was there to support Joss, who sang the song they had written to perform at the big event. Seeing Oscar certainly gave Josslyn a sense of comfort. Maybe GH writers will go for a similar strategy with Sonny.
Once Mike slips away, he could appear to Sonny looking healthy and speaking like his old self. It’d be nice for Mike to let Sonny know he loves his son and assure him that everything’s going to be OK.
Sonny might ultimately wake up and realize it was a dream, but it would still give him comfort and a bit of closure. If Sonny could just talk to Mike one more time, it might be exactly what he needs.
