General Hospital Spoilers: The GH Corinthos Kitchen Moss – Executive Producer Frank Valentini Speaks Out, Explains Its Secrets

General Hospital (GH) spoilers has some fun news to pass on about a very important character on the ABC soap…the ubiquitous GH moss. Of course, we’re referring to the big bowl of moss that lives in the Corinthos kitchen. It pops up in nearly every kitchen scene, and it’s become a beloved “character” on the show.

The GH moss tends to sit on the island countertop in the kitchen, and let’s face it, it’s heard its share of tense conversations and secrets about Sonny Corinthos’ (Maurice Benard) business dealings. But what is the moss for, and why does it just sit there?

Well, decorative moss bowls have been a housing design element for several years now. One can purchase real moss, which of course requires some TLC and a bit of a green thumb, or you can go with artificial moss. But either way, the goal is the same – to inject some life and some greenery into your space.

And the GH moss does exactly that in the Corinthos kitchen. But how did the GH moss, which is now famous in its own right, come to be? Executive Producer Frank Valentini recently appeared and spoke at the GH fan event at Elvis Presley’s Graceland, and during the Q and A session, he humorously shed some light on the story of the GH moss.

“So, when it first showed up, I was like, what is this?” he said. “It looks like moss or like a bad salad. But my production designer, who had done such a beautiful job transforming and creating the kitchen, said no, it’s very chic, it’s what people do. And I just let her do it, so it’s just taken on a life of its own.”

He continued: “Then it started to grow, and I was like, there’s things shooting out of this moss. So, every day the prop guys came with very tiny scissors and cut it out, and they were like, ‘Frank wants the moss cut.’ And I was like ok, add that to the crazy things I’ve requested over the years.”

Finally, he said: “But supposedly it’s very chic and it’s very ‘in’ design-wise. But if you hate it, I’ll figure something else out. But I didn’t want to do a bowl of apples, because everybody has that.”

After GH posted the snippet of Frank Valentini talking about the moss on Twitter (which you can watch below), loads of fans responded with comments honoring the moss. One person said: “The moss is part of the #GH family now.” And another said: “Add that Moss to the credits!!! It deserves a storyline.” And then someone humorously said: “I’ve been waiting for the announcement that it’s been put on contract.”

At any rate, the GH moss continues to make its mark on daytime television. We’ll see how long it remains a vital part of the show. What do you think of the GH moss? Stay tuned to the ABC soap and don’t forget to check CDL often for the latest General Hospital spoilers, updates, and news.
