General Hospital (GH) spoilers tease that Nelle Benson Jerome’s (Chloe Lanier) fate is still up in the air following that shocking cliff fall. Although Jasper “Jax” Jacks (Ingo Rademacher) doesn’t believe Nelle could’ve survived, many GH fans disagree – especially since no corpse has popped up yet.
Nelle’s the kind of character who just keeps coming back again and again, so Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright) probably won’t get rid of her rival so easily!
However, Chloe Lanier has wrapped her latest run for now and reflected on it in an interview with Michael Fairman. Lanier had some interesting views on her character, so let’s look at some of this GH star’s comments.
Nelle was all about gaining control of Wiley Quartermaine-Corinthos (Erik and Theo Olson) during her latest stint, but was that about love or winning?
Lanier believes love was a motive, even if Nelle didn’t really know how to properly show it or feel it. The General Hospital actress talked about how pleased she was to address that topic in some of Nelle and Carly’s showdowns.
“Those scenes were such a joy, because we got to explore some of the deep roots of Nelle’s trauma, and Carly explicitly said, ‘I believe you love your son.’ That, for me, was important,” Lanier admitted. “Because despite all of her failings, she truly did love her son—in her own warped, off kilter, way.”
Lanier went on to talk about narcissist Nelle’s penchant for sabotage and her victim mentality. “She’s basically a walking version of Taylor Swift’s song, Look What You Made Me Do,” Lanier said.
It’s true that Nelle tends to blame her flaws and mistakes on those around her – and we have no doubt she’ll blame Carly for that cliff fall if she eventually resurfaces.
Speaking of that cliff fall, Lanier had to give a shout-out to Amanda Hall and Heather Bonomo for serving as stunt doubles in those scenes. Hall and Bonomo certainly helped make the magic happen as Carly lost her grip on Nelle’s hand and left her rival plummeting in the darkness.
However, there was another scene that Lanier considered the hardest to play and perhaps scariest to film. It was all the way back when Wiley aka Jonah was a newborn, which meant Lanier had to hold a newborn for the first time as well.
Nelle exchanged her own baby for Brad Cooper’s (Parry Shen) adopted dead baby, which kicked off the infamous switch story.
“I had never held a newborn baby before, so I was TERRIFIED,” Lanier insisted. “I realized I was the only thing in that moment keeping that baby alive…a very bizarre and life altering feeling, I’ll say.”
General Hospital spoilers say Carly may be the one who’s terrified if Nelle shows back up alive down the road – and we’re betting she will! As other news and updates roll in, we’ll keep you posted.
