General Hospital (GH) spoilers for Wednesday, July 8, tease that some tough courtroom moments are coming up. In this classic that first aired on May 7, 2010, Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell) faces his prison sentence. Here’s how it all goes down on Wednesday’s General Hospital encore.
First, Claire Walsh (Dahlia Salem) lets Jasper “Jax” Jacks (Ingo Rademacher) know she’s not going down alone. If Claire goes down, she’s taking Jax with her. When Jax asks about the looming outcome for Michael, Claire suggests a suspended sentence is most likely – although Michael will have a felony conviction hanging over him forever.
Meanwhile, Lulu Spencer (Julie Marie Berman) is confident that the judge will go easy on Michael. Maxie Jones (Kirsten Storms) doesn’t think Lulu should get her hopes up, but Lulu just wants everyone to see that everything Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zampogna) did was to help Michael.
After Lulu heads for the courthouse, Lucky Spencer (Jonathan Jackson) catches up with Maxie. Lucky and Maxie connect as they talk about trampled hearts living to fight another day. Maxie’s sorry about the pain Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst) caused, but Lucky feels liberated in a way.
Later, Dante tries to convince Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright) that all of this will be the best thing that ever happened to Michael. Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) cuts Dante off and argues that Dante doesn’t even know his brother. Not only that, Sonny thinks Michael deserves a better brother than Dante.
Michael’s loved ones are there to support him, and Morgan Corinthos (Aaron Sanders) fully believes Michael will go free because of Dante. Morgan eventually waits just outside the courtroom along with Molly Lansing-Davis (Haley Pullos) and Kristina Corinthos-Davis (Lexi Ainsworth).
Johnny Zacchara (Brandon Barash) is given a chance to speak on the victim’s behalf, so he tells the judge that Sonny’s responsible for Claudia’s death, not Michael. Johnny adds that Claudia wouldn’t want Michael to suffer.
The judge sentences Michael to five years behind bars with the possibility of parole in two years. There’s a commotion in the courtroom with Dante leading the charge. Dante argues that the judge can’t do this and pleads for Michael’s shot at building a better life.
The judge understands what Michael was up against and sympathizes, but he thinks this time in prison will do Michael good. It might stop Michael from committing crimes in the future. Sonny pushes for his own punishment instead, but the judge argues that Michael’s loved ones will have to live with their actions sending Michael to prison – so that’s their punishment.
Michael embraces Sonny, Carly and Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) before he’s led away. Once Molly, Kristina and Morgan learn Michael’s going to prison, they’re all upset. Morgan protests that Dante promised this wouldn’t happen, but Michael replies that Dante was wrong.
At the Metro Court, Helena Cassadine (Constance Towers) bickers with Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) before Tracy takes off. Once Helena’s alone, she reflects on how Tracy has to stay in the dark on the true paternity of Liz’s baby. Helena doesn’t want Tracy to find out that the kid actually belongs to Lucky, not Nikolas Cassadine (Tyler Christopher).
At GH, Tracy discovers the lab tech who performed Liz’s paternity test has drowned – and he was spotted talking to Helena before it happened. Tracy realizes Helena might’ve bribed the lab tech to switch the results and then killed him to keep the secret quiet. What Tracy can’t figure out is why Helena would go this far to have a Spencer grow up a Cassadine.
