General Hospital (GH) spoilers for the week of June 29-July 3 tease that fans will see some special episodes devoted to Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) and his kids. Sonny gets along with his children most of the time, but there have certainly been some rough patches over the years. GH viewers have seen some gripping drama play out for Sonny and his children, so the show will revisit that in some classics.
On Monday, General Hospital kicks things off with a 2010 episode that focuses on Sonny and Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna). This encore features Dante aka “Dominic Pirelli,” who’s undercover and poised to arrest Sonny. When Dante takes pity on Sonny’s family and gives them one final day of bliss, it comes back to bite him.
Sonny tries to lead “Dominic” into a setup, but “Dominic” refuses to take the bait. Dante admits what Sonny already knows and begins to make the arrest, so Sonny holds Dante at gunpoint. After Sonny pulls the trigger, a horrified Olivia Falconeri (Lisa LoCicero) informs Sonny that he just shot his own son and leaves him bewildered.
Tuesday’s episode is also from 2010, but this one’s all about Sonny and Kristina Corinthos-Davis (Lexi Ainsworth). Kristina and Sonny have a therapy session, which leads to some tense moments. Sonny sees abuse as something that’s purely physical, but Kristina tries to make Sonny understand there are other forms of abuse.
Kristina insists Sonny’s behavior is part of why she stayed with abusive Kiefer Bauer (Christian Alexander). Sonny feels like Kristina’s therapist has led her to believe all this. He can’t control his temper, so that leaves Kristina frustrated and upset.
On Wednesday, GH fans can expect a memorable episode from 2014. Following the death of AJ Quartemaine (Sean Kanan), Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell) is ready to seek retribution. Sonny gets why as Michael points a gun at him and flies into a rage.
Although Sonny wouldn’t blame Michael for killing him, he assures his son of his unconditional love. Dante and Morgan Corinthos (Bryan Craig) intervene in the nick of time, so Michael allows Sonny to be arrested instead of facing a grim fate.
Thursday’s GH encore is another one that focuses on Michael and Sonny’s complex relationship. In this 2015 classic, Michael’s prepared to give Avery Corinthos (Ava and Grace Scarola) back to her father. Sonny is grateful to Michael, who points out that Avery will grow up with great admiration for Sonny.
Michael wants Sonny to be a better dad to Avery and shares a tender moment with his sister before handing her off. Although Michael’s making an effort here, he isn’t sure he can ever repair his damaged bond with Sonny.
Of course, the nice part about all these classics is knowing how things turn out! Michael and Sonny are indeed on good terms, so time healed these wounds.
Friday’s 2016 episode brings some powerful scenes as Morgan considers taking his own life. Morgan’s haunted by Kiki Jerome (Hayley Erin) getting shot and imagines her bloody with him on the GH rooftop. Michael arrives and insists Kiki’s in surgery, not up there with Morgan.
Even so, Morgan’s struggling and doesn’t think he can go on like this. Sonny eventually gets up on the ledge with Morgan and threatens to jump along with his son. Morgan feels like Sonny has to stick around for his other children. They go back and forth until Sonny convinces Morgan to get down with him, so Morgan’s suicide is prevented.
