General Hospital Spoilers: Who Killed Neil and Why – Cyrus Behind Drug Overdose and Sudden Death?

General Hospital (GH) spoilers reveal that a new mystery offers some intriguing questions, so let’s see if we can find some answers. GH fans know the preliminary findings of Neil Byrne’s (Joe Flanigan) autopsy report pointed to respiratory failure. Jordan Ashford (Briana Nicole Henry) confirmed to Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn) that a drug overdose was the underlying reason.

It’s probably no coincidence that General Hospital had Jordan deliver that news. Jordan’s being forced to obey Cyrus Renault’ orders and is at the heart of that storyline. However, you might be wondering how Neil fits in all this. We should consider some crucial clues to figure out what’s up.

Neil had just decided on a bright future with Alexis, so this certainly wasn’t an intentional drug overdose. An accidental overdose doesn’t seem likely either under the circumstances. This feels like murder – and Cyrus the drug lord is the prime suspect.

Cyrus has minions to do his dirty work, but all drug-related roads tend to lead back to him.

Remember Bob Massicotte? He was Marcus Taggert (Real Andrews) and Jordan Ashford (Briana Nicole Henry) old team member who died of a sudden drug overdose.

Bob was somewhat of a hypochondriac, so he had two checkups per year. Taggert did some research and realized there were no traces of drugs in Bob’s bloodwork leading up to his overdose.

Since Cyrus was behind Bob’s death, that played a huge role in kicking off all Taggert and Jordan’s drama. There may not be the same proof when it comes to Neil, but we’re willing to bet he didn’t have any drugs in his system until recently either. There’s clearly foul play involved, but why would Cyrus be after Neil?

To answer that, we have to think back to a request from Laura Collins (Genie Francis). On March 26, Laura reached out to Neil for help with something quite important. Here’s what Laura had to say.

“Port Charles has a new drug lord in town, and he’s flooding our streets with his product,” Laura informed Neil. “Now I am trying to find a way to stay ahead of this – if that’s even possible. I’ve talked to GH about creating a clinic, and I’ve been told that this is your area of expertise.”

Neil was happy to help in any way he could and promised to offer up some good ideas. In other words, the mayor Cyrus hates put Neil to work on a clinic that could shut down his business – or at least make it so business isn’t quite as booming.

Neil’s involvement in that clinic made him a threat to Cyrus. Even if Neil’s no longer associated with it, revenge is always an option. That’s especially true if Cyrus tried to cut a deal with Neil and was turned down. As we see with Brando Corbin (John Wactor) and the attack he faced, Cyrus doesn’t like rejection.

Of course, there could be some other explanation for Neil’s overdose, but it makes sense for Cyrus to have gone after Neil. It adds another layer to the Cyrus story and will pull Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn) into the action as she seeks answers.
