It was the first day of court. Annalise dressed to impress and she did so after working out a court strategy with Bonnie. Bonnie was told the truth. Bonnie was told that Frank was a product of incest between Sam and his sister. Frank was also Annalise winning card. She can use him to get to Hannah and she might even turn Hannah onto her side. Hannah would probably do anything to keep her secret. She wouldn’t want anyone finding out she had a baby with her brother and so Annalise’s strategy was unique. She was going to use blackmail. She was also asking Bonnie not to tell Frank and so Bonnie had to choose between her mentor and her boyfriend. And she chose her mentor.
Bonnie did Annalise’s bidding. She reached out to Hannah. She demanded Hannah testify for Annalise because they wanted her to say how she worked with both the Castillo family and Governor Birkhead to drum up false charges against Annalise. Annalise’s plan was solid. She could have easily won her case with Hannah’s testimony and so it was the surprise witness that threw a spanner into the works. The prosecution called upon Laurel. Laurel was called to testify against Tegan and so Tegan was removed as Annalise’s lawyer. Annalise was fine with that. She decided to represent herself and Tegan advised her against it.
Tegan said she would be Annalise’s dragon. She didn’t want the jury to buy into the prosecution’s story against Annalise. That Annalise was a manipulative puppet master and so Tegan begged Annalise to be her lawyer. She didn’t want Annalise to look angry in court because it might turn the jury against her. Annalise heard Tegan out, but she still demanded to defend herself and so Annalise was going to be her own lawyer. Annalise knew she could trust herself. Which was more than she could say about Tegan and so Annalise was going to be fine. She was a smart woman. She later showed that in court.
She went after Michaela first. Michaela testified that it had been all Wes during the attack on Sam and that Wes killed Sam because this was what Annalise wanted. Annalise was even accused of sleeping with Wes to get him to kill her husband. Annalise later went after Michaela for her blatant lies. She brought up Simon Drake. She mentioned how Michaela deported him for no reason and she backed up her claims with a recording. Michaela had gotten rid of Simon Drake because he got a little too close to the Keating Five. She couldn’t exactly say so in court and so Michaela lost her round against Annalise.
The FBI had built a narrative. They wanted to use Annalise’s students against her and they found Laurel because Asher told the FBI she had called them and they tracked her down. They found her in Brooklyn. They found her and they made her testify. Laurel was going to get probation while Connor and Michaela were getting five years each. The students were all being screwed here and for what. Michaela admitted to killing Sam and Gabriel called her sick. She slept with him in spite knowing she killed his father. Gabriel is never going to let her forget she did that and so Michaela lost out twice.
Connor was next. He was called to testify and he had a panic attack on the stand. He had needed to step away. Connor had a hard time lying and it was Agent Lanford who pushed him to go ahead with his testimony. Connor went back on the stand. He told the world that Annalise pushed him and his friends into killing people. Annalise called him a liar. She revealed he lied in his college essay into law school. She also revealed how he lived to Oliver on their first date because he used Oliver to get information for him. Annalise had to reveal she was bisexual in order not to be accused of gay-shaming and sadly that lost her one of the jurors.
One of the jurors was biased. He turned away from Annalise after that and she couldn’t afford to lose anyone else. She was losing in court. She could feel it and she needed Hannah. Only Hannah was only going to testify if Annalise admitted to killing Sam if she got off. Annalise seriously considered it and it was Tegan that talked her out of it. Tegan told her she deserved better. Tegan also told Annalise she could win this and Annalise tried. She managed to talk to Laurel alone. She tried to talk to the other woman into telling the truth on the stand. And at first, Laurel refused to do so because she was too afraid of losing her son Christopher.
Laurel later changed her mind on the stand. She said it was Wes’s idea all along and that Annalise had nothing to do with it. This was the first true win for Annalise. She decided to capitalize on it by agreeing to Hannah’s deal and this, in turn, got her Hannah. Or that’s what she thought. Hannah was later found dead at her home and it was either a suicide or Frank. Frank found out the truth from Bonnie after they had a heart to heart and so there was no telling what Frank did. He might have killed his mother. He might not. The truth Annalise no longer has her best witness. She was left scrambling and she wasn’t alone.
Michaela and Connor later argued with Laurel. They were upset with her for telling the truth about Annalise. They also got upset with each other because Michaela had gotten a new deal with the feds. She wasn’t getting jail time anymore and so now it was just Connor that was going to prison. And so he was struggling with that.
Also, Xavier’s murder got out. It was on the news everywhere and Nate told Jorge that it was the Governor that killed his son.
