It’s Valentine’s Day! Couples usually take this time to do something romantic together and Emily hoped she would have this time with Shekeb alone. However, his mother remained a constant presence. They even went rock-climbing together as a threesome. Shekeb invited his mother Laila to come because he feels bad whenever he excludes her from things and so he included her on a date with Emily which was tough for Emily. Emily knows Laila doesn’t like her. Laila has never hidden the fact that she doesn’t like Emily and her main reason for it seemed to be because she doesn’t want to share her son Shekeb with anyone.
Laila resents that Shekeb now thinks for himself. She especially lashes out when a third person comes along because that’s how she sees them. She sees his girlfriends as outsiders that are ruining a good thing and that’s why she treats Emily so horribly. There was nothing Emily could do that was right. Emily was fully covered for rock climbing and she was still slut-shamed by Laila because Laila claimed she could see everything. Laila didn’t even want to leave the couple alone for dinner. Shekeb told her that he was some private time with Emily and Laila said “no”. She didn’t want to be left alone while Emily got to spend time with her boyfriend on Valentine’s Day.
Emily even tried to make the situation better by talking to Laila herself. She approached Laila with a friendly demeanor and Laila began calling her all sorts of things. She didn’t want to hear Emily or even look at Emily. She tuned the other woman out and she stormed off once she realized she wasn’t going to get her way. Laila hated sharing her son. She said she doesn’t like Emily and that she was too mouthy or she dressed like a slut or she had an attitude problem and none of it was true. Emily was being very respectful to Laila. It was Laila that had the attitude problem and she wasn’t going to get grandchildren by being that way.
Jason was also a Mama’s boy. Only it didn’t stop him from getting engaged or having kids. Jason was the father of Taylor. He shares Taylor with his fiancé Justina and Justina was super nice to his mother. His mother even said that sometimes she was too nice because she didn’t want to say anything negative. Justina and Jason have been together for five years and they were planning their wedding. It was as they were planning their wedding that they wondered out loud what his mom was going to do. They knew Annette had some trick up her sleeve and they couldn’t wait to find out what it was or if it aligned with their vision of what they wanted their wedding to be.
The couple didn’t want traditional. They weren’t a traditional couple because they did everything out of order. They lived together as roommates first before they began dating and then had a child together. Again, they did out of sorts. The couple wanted to celebrate that with their wedding and they both knew Annette wanted to play a role as well. Annette loves Jason. She spent a lot of time alone with her children because her husband was working so much and she doesn’t treat her children the same. She favors Jason over her daughter Paige. Paige said she knew Jason was their mother’s favorite and it doesn’t bother her because she likes doing her own thing.
Only it was still pretty unfair that their parents favor one child so heavily. Annette didn’t even seem to remember that she had a second child and what Jason and Justina feared about their wedding was happening right in front of their eyes. His mother tried to take over. She wanted to pick the venue and that was too much for Jason. He loves his mother, but he doesn’t want her planning his wedding or excluding Justina from special events like choosing a venue or picking his tux. And the last one was something Annette really wanted to do because she wanted it to be just her and Jason that picked out the tux.
It was actually Jason that said, “no, Justina will want to see it as well”. Justina did want to see it. She knows that her future mother-in-law is pushy and she wants Jason to get the tux they envisioned for their non-traditional wedding. She didn’t want him picking a tux to satisfy his mother while his mother didn’t want him picking a tux just to satisfy Justina. Annette said that with Justina there it was going to be hard for Jason to find his voice. She also can be pretty snarky about Justina because even the way she described Justina as being too nice was a tad unfair. She has to realize that Justina is not trying to rock the boat and she still wants to throw shots at this woman just because she’s marrying Jason. And secretly that might be Annette’s biggest dream.
Then there was Matt. Matt lives in his mother’s house still and Kim who is his girlfriend had to move into the house too. Kim thought they would be getting a place together, but that didn’t happen and instead, they’re now living with his mother Kelly and Kelly was turning out to be a problem. Kelly likes needling Kim. Kelly went with Matt to pick out Kim’s Valentine gift and it was a silk robe. It was a nice silk robe. Kelly loved it so much that she bought one for herself and she wore it after she knew Kim got her gift. Kelly was showing off the robe because she wanted to remind Kim that Kelly will always come first to Matt.
Matt didn’t even try to downplay his mother’s rudeness. He said his mother bought for herself after she helped him pick it out for Kim and so a little part of him knows that this was set up. He also allowed it to happen because he didn’t tell his mom to back off. Matt allowed his mother to get away with whatever she wants. He even spent the night of Valentine’s Day with his mother. They have a ritual of making sleepy time tea together every night and he chose this ritual over having sex with his girlfriend. Kim ended up going to bed alone. She went to bed and she dreamed about them getting a place together.
Kim didn’t know that Kelly had her ideas about that as well. Kelly wanted Matt and Kim to live on her property in a newly built house and that way they would be close by for her to visit. They would also have to pay rent rather than a mortgage. Kelly knows damn well that she’s going to be showing up at their house every day. She’s going to bring Matt his morning cup of coffee and she’s going to be there at night ready to make tea with him. Kelly admitted tonight that she doesn’t like sharing Matt with anyone and so she’s slowing trying to push Kim out of the picture. And poor Kim is the only one who doesn’t realize she’s losing in the grand scheme of things.
Shekeb was on a date with Emily when he got a phone call from his mother. His mother claimed she injured her leg and that she was in pain. She guilt-tripped Shekeb into canceling his dinner date so that he would come rushing back to take care of her. And it worked because that’s exactly what happened. Shekeb went running to Laila’s side and she’s probably fine. It was Emily who was hurt in all of this. Emily now knows that Shekeb will always run to his mother’s side and leave her alone at dinner.
Also, the tux shopping was a bad idea with three people because Annette kept talking over Justina and she thought she was the bride.
THE END!
