Michael loves his mother. The two of them are really close. His father passed away at a young age and so he learned to depend on his mother. They did almost everything together. They especially loved to play basketball together. Michael is an athlete. He always has been. Liz saw that her son had a passion for the sport and she used to let him stay up late into the night working on his game. She was also helping along the way. They played often together and Michael credits that for him getting a basketball scholarship to college. Michael has since graduated. He graduated almost five years ago and he feels like an adult. He was ready to do adult things. Michael was ready to settle down.
Michael loves his girlfriend Stephanie. He’s never felt like this before and he thinks now is the time to propose. He even talked to his mother about it. He told Liz that he was ready to settle down and she told him that he was too young. She said he was a baby still. He was just twenty-six and she thought that was too young to get married. She wanted him to wait, but Michael’s mother has been married twice and Michael remembers how everything wasn’t great for her. She was unhappy a lot in her marriages. Michael didn’t mean to throw that back in her face, but he couldn’t help mentioning it because he didn’t think she had a right to tell him when he could get married.
Liz was also turning this into some kind of competition. She thought she was in competition with Stephanie and she wasn’t afraid to admit it out loud. Liz didn’t want her son marrying his girlfriend because to her it would feel like Stephanie had won. Only Liz didn’t want that. Liz wanted to be the most important woman to Michael and again she wasn’t afraid to say that out loud. She didn’t want to share her son. Michael could see that she didn’t want to share him and he had a problem with that because he does care for his girlfriend. He wants to be with his girlfriend. He wants to marry her and she wants it too because Stephanie has taken him to some jewelry stores to look at rings.
It’s just that before they can get married, Stephanie is going to need to see Michael stand up for her. She wants to feel like she’s important to him and so she’s asking for evidence. It’s something all the girlfriends want. They don’t really mind that their boyfriends are close to their moms. They just don’t want to feel second best either. Kim loved Matt and she wants to be with him. She moved in with him at his parents’ place because she thought it would be a temporary thing. They were going to get their own house one day and so Kim wanted to be the one house shopping with Matt. She didn’t want his mother Kelly to be there offering an opinion. Kelly is not going to be living with them.
Kelly wants to live with them. She’s told the kids that they needed an extra bedroom for her when she’s sleeping over and that was weird to Kim because she knew Kelly wouldn’t live too far away so why couldn’t Kelly just stay at her own house. Kelly was also adamant about having her own room. She wanted to be involved in the new house and she even wanted them to build a house on her land so that they would be living next door. So, why does she need to have a room on top of that? Kelly was going too far in demanding one and Matt wasn’t standing up to her. He tends to bend whenever his mother says something and it’s rare he speaks up for Kim.
Thankfully, Shekeb didn’t have this problem. Shekeb loves Emily and he wants Emily to be a part of his family. He invited her to his mother’s birthday. He thought that if his mom saw how nice Emily and how much she makes him happy that she would want to get to know Emily, but he underestimated how spiteful his mother was. Laila hated Emily. Laila was going to hate whomever her son chose to be with because she didn’t want to share her son with anyone and so Laila was horrible to Emily. She didn’t want to accept Emily’s gift. She didn’t even want to eat her own birthday cake because she found out Emily picked it out and she claimed Emily wants to poison her.
Emily does want to murder her. Well, she didn’t before this birthday because back then she still thought there was hope for her having a cordial relationship with Laila and so she knows differently now. Laila was openly hostile. She was rude to Emily and she basically kicked Emily out of her house. She did not Emily around her. She also claimed Emily ruined her birthday just by being there and so she didn’t see how she herself was the problem. Laila was so openly hostile that she took Shekeb by surprise because he never thought his mother would act like that and he didn’t like it. He tried to tell her to stop. She wouldn’t and so he chose to leave. He left with Emily.
It was Shekeb’s father who ran out after him. His dad wanted him to come back to the house to speak to his mother and he refused to because he didn’t like how she reacted to Emily just being there. Emily didn’t even get to speak before his mother began acting like a child. She claimed Emily had negative energy and she felt sapped every time she had to share the same room as Emily. Laila was just saying things to hurt this young woman. Her son realized what she was doing and he tried to stop it. He loves Emily. He didn’t care that came from different cultures and neither did his father. His dad just wanted someone who would make Shekeb happy. And that’s Emily.
Laila never realized that part. She had also accused Emily of trying to take Shekeb from her and that’s probably the closest thing to why Laila really hates Emily. She doesn’t want to share her son. She wants to keep him to herself and Emily was threatening that. All the girlfriends and fiancés were threatening such a reality for the mama’s boys. Jason went to a dance rehearsal with his fiancé Justina and naturally, his mother came along. She came along because she wanted to practice the mother/son dance. Annette wishes to dance the tango with her son for his wedding and that was typically a very passionate dance. It wasn’t one often danced amongst family members much less mother and son.
Even the dance instructor was thrown by that one. He couldn’t tell why Annette would want to do it until he was showing her the moves and it soon became clear that she wanted all eyes on her during this wedding reception. Annette basically wanted to have her dream wedding that day. She was going to wear a showstopping dress that will probably be red because she wants to match Jason’s tuxedo and the dance instructor was not the first to question why Annette was so involved. Everyone looking into that dynamic question it. Annette even said she was going to be sad at the wedding because it felt like she was giving up her baby boy and she also said she was going to be happy as well because he found someone he wants to spend the rest of his life with.
Emily and Shekeb later returned to the house after his father convinced them to come back. He claimed his wife felt unwell and Laila was just fine. She only wanted Shekeb to return to the house and so she was even nastier than before to see Emily again. She called Emily a pig. She told Emily to leave and so she did, but she also left with Shekeb and this time they didn’t come back.
THE END!
