We have some sad news to pass on about actress Kelly Preston. Kelly, who was the wife of John Travolta and a former soap star, passed away on July 12th after a two-year battle with breast cancer. Kelly was 57 years old.
People Magazine reported the news early this morning, after receiving a statement from a family representative. “Choosing to keep her fight private, she had been undergoing medical treatment for some time, supported by her closest family and friends,” the representative said. “She was a bright, beautiful, and loving soul who cared deeply about others and who brought life to everything she touched. Her family asks for your understanding of their need for privacy at this time.”
John Travolta took to Instagram to make the sad announcement as well. There, he posted a photo of Kelly along with a moving caption. “It is with a very heavy heart that I inform you that my beautiful wife Kelly has lost her two-year battle with breast cancer. She fought a courageous fight with the love and support of so many.”
John continued: “My family and I will forever be grateful to her doctors and nurses at MD Anderson Cancer Center, all the medical centers that have helped, as well as her many friends and loved ones who have been by her side. Kelly’s love and life will always be remembered.”
John concluded: “I will be taking some time to be there for my children who have lost their mother, so forgive me in advance if you don’t hear from us for a while. But please know that I will feel your outpouring of love in the weeks and months ahead as we heal. All my love, JT.”
Kelly is survived by John as well as their children Ella (20) and Benjamin (9). Their son Jett passed away at age 16 back in 2009. Kelly’s final Instagram post was back on Father’s Day, when she posted a family photo of herself, John, Ella, and Benjamin, along with the following caption: “Happy Father’s Day to the best one I know, we love you.”
Kelly appeared on the CBS soap Capitol back in the 1980s as well as the original Hawaii Five-O, and she went on to have a wonderful career in both movies and television. Kelly had recurring roles on Medium, Fat Actress, Joey, and CSI: Cyber, among other shows. Kelly also appeared in the major motion pictures Jerry Maguire, From Dusk Till Dawn, Twins, and For Love Of The Game.
One of Kelly’s final roles was in the movie Gotti, which also starred John Travolta in the lead role of John Gotti. Kelly’s final movie is currently in post-production and is titled Off The Rails.
We send our deepest condolences to John and all of Kelly’s family at this difficult time. Be sure to stick with CDL for all your up-to-the-moment entertainment news.
