Remaining couples faced their nearest and dearest, bringing some closer together while tearing others apart.
It’s been four weeks into the experiment. The couples have moved to a crucial stage in which they meet each other’s families and its been going great for some of them. Michael said his mother liked Stacey more than she liked him. He took that as a good sign and so he’s happy. Michael and Stacey have proven to be one of the stronger couples this season just because of their great communication skills. They know how to talk to each other. They also know how to apologize to each other when one of them does cross the line. This was a key component in their relationship and its something many of them needed to work on.
Michael and Stacey went into the friends and family meeting as a strong couple. Others weren’t so lucky. Cathy and Josh have been struggling since the commitment ceremony. Cathy is pushing Josh away because she’s scared and she’s remembering all the things he said to her. He told her he was going to write “Leave” because he didn’t want to be with someone who didn’t trust him. He said this out of anger. He was upset because all he did was talk to Hayley and Cathy got jealous. Cathy’s jealousy came from out of her past. She’s checked previous boyfriends for infidelity. She thought she had to do the same with Josh and he got angry.
Josh didn’t mean what he said. He chose to “Stay”. He just didn’t apologize for what he said and so it wasn’t until he got around to apologizing that Cathy was willing to listen to him. He said sorry. She said sorry and she also felt better as well. Cathy had thought she was ready to meet his family and for him to meet hers, but she was not. She could never have prepared herself for Josh throwing her under the bus as he did. He ignored their previous agreement about not bringing up their problems. He told his mother who was a very protective mother that Cathy has been ignoring him for days and so his mom later told Cathy in no uncertain terms that she couldn’t ignore Josh for three days.
They can disagree. They can even have a fight except it couldn’t go on for three days. Three days was too long. Josh’s mother said her son deserved better. She wasn’t cruel about what she thought and if anything she was pretty understanding. She counseled the young couple. His mom was also very supportive of Cathy and so Cathy had nothing to worry about her. Her mother-in-law hugged her as she was leaving. She let Cathy know that she was there for her if she ever needed her and her final parting words the couple was that they needed to work on their marriage. And so she wasn’t a problem like some of the others.
Sometimes the families were not all that understanding. Ivan and Aleks had an awkward moment when her friends asked the couple if they’ve had sex yet in front of his parents and so they declined to answer that question. Then there were moments where the couples were the problem. Vanessa and Chris are another struggling couples. They don’t sleep together anymore because he’s gotten used to sleeping on the couch and she was tired of asking him for affection. She had talked to Hayley earlier. They both discussed how much they’ve been putting into the relationship and how their spouses don’t seem to want to reciprocate.
Vanessa was so fed up that she didn’t even hide it in front of her friends. She told them she didn’t feel attractive because he didn’t pay her any attention and that she’s been trying to build something with him. She just wasn’t getting anything back. It was like he was dead inside and it was so slowly destroying Vanessa. She needed more. She told her friends that she needed more and so they asked Chris if he liked Vanessa. They all wanted him to reassure her that he liked her. Only he couldn’t even do that. He instead said he didn’t like being confronted or barked at and he again pushed Vanessa away with his words.
Vanessa stormed out because she couldn’t take it anymore. She wanted someone who wanted her and she wasn’t getting that with Chris. He said he likes her and then he wouldn’t show it. He wouldn’t give her any true affection or comfort. He wasn’t supportive in the slightest and Vanessa realized she deserved someone who would be there to put his arm around her. Vanessa pulled away from Chris. She was done with his excuses for why he couldn’t be the man she needed. She was just done with the experiment. Vanessa wanted out of her marriage and she wasn’t alone. Mikey wanted out too.
Mikey couldn’t get passed what his wife Natasha told everyone. She told everyone that he lasted ten seconds and that was humiliating to him. Mikey voted “Leave” at the last ceremony. He was still on Team Leave when they met up with their parents and they both confessed that there were problems in the marriage. Mikey told everyone that Natasha has two sides. She was this cool person one second and then she turned into someone else in a crowd. Natasha had been very hurt to hear him describe her like that. She actually stepped away from the table because she had needed a minute to calm down and so her mother later chose to step in.
Michelle spoke to Mikey one on one. She told him how her daughter gets nervous and insecure in a crowd. She said Natasha has been like that since she was a kid. She needed reassurance a lot. Michelle suggested to Mikey that he been the one to comfort Natasha and help her feel like she can be herself. And having Michelle speak to him had helped Mikey feel like there might be a chance for his marriage after all.
But late into the night, a group of people went out for drinks. Several of the partygoers reportedly saw some inappropriate behavior. They later gossiped about it. It got back to David and he was told his wife was seen kissing another husband in the experiment. She was seen kissing Michael.
