Deputy Director Van Cleef has a problem with women. He tends to discipline women who have usually clean records and what he did to Khoury alone was enough for her to investigate him. Van Cleef had had her demoted. He demoted her after she did what Pride does all the time and while he was rewarded for it – Khoury was punished. Khoury has tried moving on. She’s tried letting go of it and she couldn’t. She knew she had been unfairly punished. Khoury was looking into the man now because he had been offered a promotion at DOD and she wanted all the information to be out there before he was appointed.
Khoury was investigating Van Cleef on her own time. If other members of her team were helping, its because they were being good friends and they wanted to help take Van Cleef down. The team, however, wasn’t letting this personal mission stop them from working. They were working. They were investigating Lieutenant Daniel Sloane’s death. He was found in a swamp and his death looked suspicious. The team thought he had been killed and that his body had been dumped in that location because he would have eventually been eaten by crocodiles. They later learned that Sloane was a microbiologist.
He studies swamp-like creatures. He was out there because he heard about a nocturnal swamp monster and he was chasing after it. The creature was called a Rougarou. Sebastian had heard of it and he was just as interested as the late Sloane in wanting to prove the creature exists. Sloane went after this creature. He took several swamp tours of the area and so the team followed up on it. They became especially interested once they realize their swap tour guide had found the body. He found the body, reported it, and he made sure not to leave his information. He didn’t leave his information because the tour guide was initially interested in posting pictures of the dead Sloane online.
The tour guide has been using the Rougarou to drum up business. He posts pictures of mauled animals online and he questions if this mysterious monster had killed him. The team questioned if the tour guide could have killed Sloane. He could have done it to get more business for his swamp tours and so the team grilled their tour guide. They pushed him into saying everything he did. Like finding the body. He even has pictures of the dead Sloane that the team collected and so they tried using them to find out what really happened to Sloane. They were investigating when Pride got called to the office by Van Cleef. Van Cleef had heard what Khoury was doing and he told Pride to call her off or he’d ruin Pride’s career as well.
Pride couldn’t let that happen. His career is everything to him. He even sacrificed his marriage to Linda for it and now things are awkward with his ex back in town. She’s helping their daughter Laurel plan her wedding. Laurel wanted a grand reception and so her parents were shilling out a lot money over it. They were doing this because they love her. They wanted her to have what she wanted and she wanted fancy. She also wanted to marry a cop and her mother had a problem with it. Lina has been married to a cop. She knows how hard it’s going to be for Laurel and she felt like Pride should have stopped their daughter from pursuing the relationship.
Linda was being unreasonable. She was still bitter from how her own marriage turned out that all she saw was doom and gloom for Laurel. The same Laurel who idolized her father. Laurel thought to be a cop was great and she’s only ever known as the relationship as being a daughter of a cop. Being the wife of a cop is going to be different. Linda felt Laurel would come to regret her marriage and so she was upset. She didn’t want her daughter rushing into something she wasn’t ready for. She also thought Pride could have stop this marriage if he tried and he chose not to. Pride chose to trust his daughter.
Pride had also taken Van Cleef’s warning to mean that Khoury was onto something. So, he went and he helped Khoury. Khoury had found out that Van Cleef takes disciplinary actions five times more against women than he does men. He likes ruining women’s careers and so both Pride and Khoury were going to tank his. They were doing this as the team found evidence in Sloane’s case. They found out Sloane had been dating someone named Stacy. They met on a dating app and something went wrong. Stacy was at home. Her place was a mess and it appeared that there had been a struggle.
The team believed she had been kidnapped. They wondered by who and they came across a rape/murder/fantasy site. Someone had written a story about killing Sloane and raping Stacy. The team followed this lead to Kevin McCabe. He worked with Sloane and that’s probably how he met Stacy. He became obsessed with her. He thought he would be with Stacy once he killed Sloane and so the team found him keeping Stacy prisoner. They shot and injured him. They also got Stacy out of the situation alive. The team did good work and they closed their case. They all began focusing on what was happening with Khoury afterward.
Khoury’s friends had helped her clear her name from the first time Van Cleef had her punished.
All they needed to now was to go public with Deputy Director Van Cleef’s bias against women. Khoury agreed to testify at Van Cleef’s senate confirmation and she gave Van Cleef an early warning. She threatened to tell the world about him. She said the only way for him to protect himself is if he resigned and so, either way, the team was going to end his career with NCIS. Khoury had felt so happy about what she did that she went for celebratory drinks with her friends and this time Carter even showed.
Khoury went home after the bar and she ran into Van Cleef who had been waiting for her at her house.
He didn’t hurt her, but he did try to intimidate her and it did not work.
Pride meanwhile talked to Linda and he finally apologized for being such a bad husband.
THE END!
