British royals news reveals that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are in the spotlight once again, and this time it is for a measurable loss that they have suffered. Before the couple stepped down from their roles as senior royals, they maintained the @sussexroyal account on Instagram, which was the official Instagram account of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
But since stepping down in March, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have had to drop the Sussex Royal branding. The couple has moved on, though, having started a charitable foundation called the Archewell Foundation. Currently, plans for the foundation appear to be on hold until after lockdown has lifted.
Well, back in March, the @sussexroyal account had 11.3 million followers. That was about even with the @kensingtonroyal account, which is the official Instagram account for Prince William and Kate Middleton. But since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have stepped back, the @sussexroyal account has fallen to 11.1 million followers.
Harry and Meghan’s final Instagram post was back on March 30th, when they posted the following message: “As we can all feel, the world at this moment seems extraordinarily fragile. Yet we are confident that every human being has the potential and opportunity to make a difference – as seen now across the globe, in our families, our communities, and those on the front line – together we can lift each other up to realize the fullness of that promise.”
The message continued: “What’s most important right now is the health and well-being of everyone across the globe and finding solutions for the many issues that have presented themselves as a result of this pandemic. As we all find the part we are to play in this global shift and changing of habits, we are focusing this new chapter to understand how we can best contribute.”
Harry and Meghan concluded by saying: “While you may not see us here, the work continues. Thank you to this community – for the support, the inspiration, and the shared commitment to the good in the world. We look forward to reconnecting with you soon. You’ve been great! Until then, please take good care of yourselves, and of one another.”
As of the present time, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have not made an alternative internet presence known for themselves and/or for the Archewell Foundation. Now that the @sussexroyal account is sitting dormant and 200K followers have fled as followers, one wonders what their new internet presence, if indeed they develop one, will garner in terms of followers.
Of course, there always seemed to be a bit of a rivalry over the number of followers between the @sussexroyal and @kensingtonroyal accounts. We should note that @kensingtonroyal currently has 11.8 million followers. Do you suppose Harry and Meghan could ever achieve that many followers on a new account?
