Prince William and Kate Middleton appear to get along well and by all accounts have a happy and healthy marriage and family with their three children: Prince George (6), Princess Charlotte (5), and Prince Louis (2). But back in 2007, when William and Kate were dating, they shocked the world when they announced they had gone their separate ways.
This came after almost five years of dating, and when the world seemed to be sure that Prince William would marry Kate and that it was only a matter of time until he asked her to be his wife. However, the couple put an abrupt end to their relationship, and William and Kate were, as far as anyone knew at the time, done for good.
So, what happened back in 2007 that was so bad it necessitated a breakup? Well, in a recent television documentary called “William & Kate: Too Good To Be True,” royal commentator Victoria Arbiter explained that “the engagement whispers were starting, there was intense pressure on William and Kate.”
In fact, royal watchers were just sure that William and Kate would be walking down the aisle sooner rather than later. But it seems that the pressure on William and Kate was just too much, and the relationship reached a breaking point.
Kate Middleton and Prince William first met when they were each attending the University of St. Andrews back in 2001. And even back in the early days, the public and the press became quite interested in Kate – to the point where William needed to issue a plea to protect Kate’s privacy.
And years later, when the couple split, a friend reportedly said that Prince William had been hesitant to get married so young and settle down. Others speculated that there were serious private issues in their very public relationship.
But later in 2007, William and Kate were seen together clubbing in London, and once the relationship was back on, things seemed to quickly turn serious.
It wasn’t until 2010 when Prince William finally proposed to Kate while they were on vacation in Kenya as they celebrated William passing his Royal Air Force search and rescue course. William and Kate were married in 2011 in front of millions at Westminster Abbey in a lavish ceremony.
At any rate, Prince William and Kate Middleton surely still face intense pressure, albeit of a different sort now. And now that Prince William is back to making public appearances, perhaps we’ll see Kate out and about soon as well. Be sure to check back here at CDL for more British royals news and updates.
