Malcolm wakes up from a nightmare in his cell. He had a dream that he was stuck in prison with his father, accused of murder. His team has built him out on his mother’s recognizance. Edrisa found his DNA at the crime scene. Just then Jessica arrives with her lawyers, she is there to take Malcolm home to her house. She tells him he’s grounded.
Martin is in his cell when he hears the phone ring. He answers it, Nicholas is on the other end. Martin assures him that his secrets are safe. Nicholas believes that taking away some of Martin’s privileges might do the trick.
At his mother’s house, Malcolm attempts to disable his ankle bracelet. Just then Jessica gets an invite from Nicholas who wants to help Malcolm with his situation. Gil arrives. He is there to check on Jessica, and to tell her that everything will be over soon. He knows that Malcolm did not murder Eve’s killer. After Gil leaves Jessica finds out that Malcolm has escaped and stuck his ankle bracelet on her assistant Leonard.
Malcolm arrives after the team leaves to talk to Edrisa. Obviously he’s been framed but he has no idea how to prove the DNA situation. He doesn’t know how his DNA got under the victim’s fingernails but he needs to figure out how to prove that it wasn’t him and then it was planted.
Malcolm goes to visit the man his mother calls the devil. His name is Sterling and he has known their family for a long time. Malcolm asks Sterling if Nicholas owns the labs where his DNA was extracted. The man won’t say. He tells Malcolm to speak with his dad for additional information. Just then a man with a head-on appears out of nowhere and shoots Sterling. Before Sterling dies he tells Malcolm that Martin is the only one that can end this.
Martin is in the yard with the other prisoners. One of his friends tells him that there’s a bounty out on his head. Martin misunderstands his friend, believing that he wants to help him. But his friend clarifies, telling Martin that he’s actually going to have to kill him.
Malcolm rushes home to get off his bloody clothes. He puts his ankle bracelet back again, telling Jessica and his sister he needs to get to Martin. Ainsley tells them she cannot get in touch with him. Gil and the team arrive. He asks if he saw Sterling. He denies it all but when they won’t talk to him about the case, he admits he saw Sterling killed. They take him back in. At the precinct, the tells them he needs to solve the case. They let him talk with them about the case. He shares that the night he went to the hospital for revenge against Eve’s killer Eddie, he couldn’t do anything. In fact, the man could have been dead and that is how they planted the DNA. They release Malcolm.
Malcolm and Ainsley visit Martin. He is scared and wants out. He is going to get killed and he has no leverage. They need to solve who killed Eddie and then save Malcolm. Martin thinks killing is the only way. The guards call for him. He gives some last words until Ainsley cuts him off. He is the surgeon, the smartest one in there and he needs to act like it. Martin notices that Ainsley cares and she touched his arm. He smiles.
Gil meets with Malcolm and tells him to get out of town.
Before Malcolm leaves he listens to Eve’s last email. He notices some background noise and calls Dani. He needs Eve’s location at the time of the call.
Jessica has dinner with Nicholas. He wants to help her in anyway he can. He is head over heels for her. She smiles nervously.
Malcom gets the address from Dani and heads to Connecticut. He arrives at an animal clinic where he asks for the vet. When he looks at the vet he realizes he once saw her in the back of his fathers car.
Gil arrives at Nicholas‘s home. He tells Nicholas he is there to take Jessica home. He also wants Nicholas that he will ruin his reputation as well. Nicholas doesn’t like this and stabs Gil, Jessica witnesses this from the landing. When Nicholas comes back to the dinner table, Jessica hits him with a wine bottle and knocking him out before running down the stairs and grabbing Gil’s keys.
Jessica runs and gets into Gil’s car and sees Nicholas’ associate driving from the house. Guessing Gil is in the trunk of the car, Jessica plows into the driver side. The man inside is knocked out allowing her to get Gil out of the trunk and takeoff in his car.
Malcolm realizes he has found the girl in the box. He confronts her. She has changed her name from Sophie to Sarah. Malcolm tells Sophie how he has been framed for the murder of Eve. But he knows it was a personal killing and that only leaves her, Eve’s sister. She confesses. She only got to spend four days with her sister before she was gone. Malcolm confesses to her that he is sorry he couldn’t spare her from his father.
He gets emotional. She doesn’t understand why he feels responsible, he was just a kid. Malcolm tells her how he is headed back to the precinct to tell them that he went to Connecticut for nothing, and never found Eddie’s killer. He leaves Sophie to live her life and heads to the hospital to wait to hear about Gil.
The team heads to see Nicholas. Meanwhile, Ainsley sends Malcolm a message that she needs to see him right away. In prison Martin narrowly escapes being murdered by cutting a deal with his friend who actually needs a consultation with the neurosurgeon.
At Jessica’s, Malcom arrives to find Nicholas sitting with his sister. Nicolas threatens them both, saying how they’ll never be able to take him down. He owns the system. Malcolm pulls a gun but he can’t pull the trigger. Ainsley comes out of nowhere and slits his throat before viciously stabbing him. Just then Martin calls while Malcolm is trying to assure her that everything‘s gonna be OK. He tells Martin that Ainsley took his advice to kill. Martin seems proud well Malcolm and Ainsley stand in the living room with blood everywhere in complete shock.
