British royals news reveals that Queen Elizabeth experienced some sad moments when she learned of the passing of a very important person to Britain. As you might know, famed singer Dame Vera Lynn passed away last week at the age of 103. Vera Lynn was a wartime singer who helped to raise morale in the UK during World War II. She was best known for hits such as “We’ll Meet Again” and “White Cliffs of Dover.”
In fact, back in April, Queen Elizabeth referenced Vera Lynn’s lyrics to “We’ll Meet Again” when she addressed the nation about the coronavirus pandemic. The Queen told Britons: “We will be with our friends again, we will be with our families again, we will meet again.”
After the Queen cited Vera Lynn’s lyrics, Vera spoke publicly about how happy she was about it. Vera said: “I watched the Queen’s speech, which was wonderful, but I didn’t know that Her Majesty was going to finish up with the words ‘we will meet again.’”
Vera went on to say that she had met the Queen several times, and that Queen Elizabeth was someone that the country could rely upon in times of trouble.
As it turns out, the Queen was the first person aside from Very Lynn’s family who was told about her death. According to a spokesperson for the singer, the Queen was “very, very sad” about Vera’s passing. It’s been reported that Queen Elizabeth subsequently sent a private letter to Vera’s family in which she sent her deepest condolences.
Vera Lynn performed for troops during World War II, even though it sometime put her at personal risk. Vera performed in a wide range of countries, including Burma, India, and Egypt, and she once said that her songs “reminded the boys of what they were really fighting for – precious, personal things, rather than ideologies and theories.”
Vera Lynn recently encouraged Britain to “rediscover the same spirit that saw us through the war” as it dealt with the coronavirus pandemic. Vera made that statement before she turned 103 back in March.
At any rate, Vera Lynn’s death saddened many in Britain and around the world, and Queen Elizabeth was no exception. Hopefully, the Queen’s words and condolences will be of comfort to the family at this time. Keep checking CDL frequently for all your British royals updates and news.
