The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Harry, and Meghan, stepped down from their royal duties to live an independent life. However, the couple took something with them — the Sussex Royal brand. Queen Elizabeth has ordered them to stop using Sussex Royal immediately. Now, they need to find an original way to promote themselves without piggybacking on the royal benefits they left behind.
New Lives Following ‘Megxit’ – When Harry and Meghan initiated “Megxit,” they wanted freedom, independence, and privacy. They stepped down from their senior royal duties and moved part-time to Canada. However, not all the fine details had been worked out when they made a sudden announcement.
It is clear that the couple didn’t think of every possible scenario because new issues are cropping up. One of these includes them using the Sussex Royal brand when they are technically no longer royals.
Using the Sussex Royal Brand – When Harry and Meghan abandoned the Royal Family and their responsibilities, they knew about dropping their titles. However, they didn’t stop to consider that they would also have to abandon all the benefits and advantages of being a royal. This includes using the Sussex Royal label. The branding includes not just the name, but the tags and trademarking as well.

While some accuse Harry and Meghan of shamelessly self-promoting by piggybacking on the royal brand, it is more likely something they just didn’t think about.
Queen Elizabeth’s Decision – According to the Daily Mail, Queen Elizabeth has made her decision regarding the use of Sussex Royal. Since Harry and Meghan are no longer performing royal duties, it is inappropriate for them to use the brand.
The Price of Leaving the Royal Family – The decision is a setback as Harry and Meghan planned to register the royal brand as a global trademark. They wanted to use it for items such as apparel, stationery, educational materials, and books.
They also began creating a new charity: Sussex Royal, The Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

In addition to those plans, the couple continued using the tag #SussexRoyal on Instagram. They reported spent tens of thousands of pounds on a brand new website using the Sussex Royal brand to compliment the Instagram feed.
There really is a price for freedom when you consider how much money they spent, only to have to scrap everything and start over.
