Songland Finale Recap 06/15/20: Season 2 Episode 10 "Usher"

Tonight on NBC their popular reality show Songland airs with an all-new Monday, June 15, 2020 episode and we have your Songland recap below for you. On tonight’s Songland season 2 episode 10 Finale “Usher” as per the TLC Synopsis “Multiplatinum, eight-time Grammy and American Music Award-winning R&B icon, Usher, comes to “Songland” to hear unknown songwriters pitch their original material. 

Three of the most successful and sought-after writer-producers in music, Ryan Tedder, Ester Dean, and Shane McAnally, produce the songwriters to creatively adapt their songs to perfectly fit the superstar artist. One song is chosen to be recorded by the guest recording artist and released for a global audience.

Usher is the artist of the night. He joins the team. He is looking for a great song with versatility. Miranda is first up with her song Salty, about an ex who wants to come back but after being turned down they are salty. She performs the song for the four of them.

After the performance, they talk about the song being from a female view so usher singing wouldn’t work. They decide to play with the lyrics and the track. She offers advice about adding how the person gets over the relationship.

Ryan is up next with his song, Staying Over. This is the first song he has pitched. After his performance, they discuss the missing chorus. They also need to make this song more rap. They play around with the beat and add some swag.

David from NJ brings his song to the stage entitled Horse n’ Carriage. He gets the right to perform it. They go over the lyrics. They think the song needs to be more universal. Usher feels like it is dancehall. He likes it and wants to play with the hook. They. Love the club feel to it.

Fatherdude from New York City has brought his song, Billions. His song is about the billions of people in the world and making a connection with just one. He performs his song for the four and hopes Usher will love it. Shane thinks it is awesome. Usher thinks it is a witty concept. They do think there are two genres in there. They play with the song a bit.

They call back the songwriters, choosing Miranda, Ryan, and David. Miranda and Ryan are paired together. They work to flip the track to fit a male perspective.

Ester works with Ryan on his song. They focus on lyrics and story structure. Miranda and Ryan check-in with Usher. They are working to tailor the song to him. He wants goosebumps.

David and Shane work on improving the chorus. They move it from an Urban feel to a more worldwide hit to appeal to more people.

Ester and Ryan make the lyrics flow better. They listen to their adjustments with a few drops, an urban drum, and more.

It is time for the three to represent their revised songs. David performs first. Usher and the three love it.

Miranda is up next with her song. Ryan joins her to perform to add vocals. Ryan performs last, singing his new song California. Usher loves it.

All three songwriters are called back. Usher chooses the song California from Ryan. Usher congratulates him. Usher loves it for the vibe and pop.
