The Bold and the Beautiful (B&B) spoilers tease that new details are coming out about how the show’s handling love scenes and other moments that require close contact. B&B has a long list of safety protocols to follow – including keeping actors eight feet apart at all times. That means The Bold and the Beautiful will have to rely on a little TV magic to keep bringing us love in the afternoon!
In an interview with Forbes.com, B&B Head Writer and Executive Producer Bradley Bell opened up about what kissing and love scenes will look like on set. They tried to write out that sort of thing, but it just didn’t feel right. Bell suggested that they formed a new plan, which involved some creative tricks and sneaky editing.
“We were cutting all kinds of kisses, and the shows weren’t the same,” Bell insisted. Instead, actors will have to go through the motions separately. Each person will be inches from the camera when he or she films alone.
“They’ll look like they’re nose to nose, in the throes of passion,” Bell said. “But they’ll be shooting scenes all by themselves.” Once everything is edited together, The Bold and the Beautiful will hopefully deliver kisses that look relatively normal. At least that’s the goal!
Here’s where things get a bit weird. To film steamier scenes, Bell intends to use blow-up dolls to help actors simulate lovemaking. Yes, you read that right. Blow-up dolls! B&B’s even going to put wigs and make-up on them, so that should be…well, interesting.
“We have some life-like blow up dolls that have been sitting around here for the past 15 years, that we’ve used for various other stories — (like) when people were presumed dead,” Bell said. “We’re dusting off the dolls and putting new wigs and make-up on them and they’ll be featured in love scenes.”
Another technique B&B’s using will require bringing in some of the actors’ real-life partners. The Bold and the Beautiful will use those real-life partners in scenes where touching is necessary.
If you see a pair of hands on an actor’s face, for example, those hands will actually belong to a husband or wife. It’ll just be edited together so it looks like the characters are touching.
