The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers tease that Dina Mergeron’s (Marla Adams) death is sure to hit the Abbott family hard. They’ve been able to prepare for Dina’s passing – at least as much as you can prepare for a blow like this. Even though the Abbotts know it’s coming, this is still going to be a tough loss.
Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) stepped back at work so Dina could live out her final days at home. Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson) also joined her siblings in Genoa City, so Jack, Ashley and Traci Abbott (Beth Maitland) are all ready for the next step. Of course, that step is saying a tearful goodbye to Dina when the time comes.
Abby Newman (Melissa Ordway) and Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) will also be heartbroken when they have to bid Dina farewell. We should note that Marla Adams will be 82 in August, so it should too risky for her to return to set when Y&R first resumes production. Safety has to be the priority, so The Young and the Restless may even opt to have Dina die offscreen.
Regardless of how the show handles this, Dina’s death is unavoidable. It has to happen eventually, so we have to think about how it’ll affect the Abbotts – and one almost Abbott. Theo Vanderway (Tyler Johnson) really blew it when he cheated in that Jabot competition.
Although Dina is mostly unresponsive these days, Theo still paid his grandmother a visit in the aftermath of his firing.
Ever since Theo first met Dina, he’s felt a connection with her. Theo wishes he could’ve known Dina when he felt more like himself – and when she felt more like herself, too.
When Theo opened up to Dina after getting the boot at Jabot, he felt like he’d lost his shot at a family. However, we’d say there’s still hope for Theo to make amends, especially after Dina dies.
Will Dina’s death bring Theo and the Abbotts back together? It’s easy to imagine Jack and even Kyle seeing that Theo’s grief is genuine. Ashley and Traci like Theo, so they’d certainly throw their support behind the idea of Theo becoming part of the fam again.
It looks like Theo could get a helping hand from Dina as she passes away. Family acceptance may be a final parting gift from Dina to her grandson. In other words, Theo may lose his grandmother, but he could get his shot at a family back.
