The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers reveal that Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) and Summer Newman (Hunter King) could face some bumps in the road. Y&R fans know Kyle finally confessed that Summer was in his heart and had been all along. After Kyle split from Lola Rosales (Sasha Calle), he quickly reunited with Summer and has been happy with her ever since.
Of course, all soap couples go through rough patches sooner or later. A period of bliss is always followed by some sort of storm, which usually determines if that couple will survive or fall apart. Kyle and Summer deserve to coast along for a while, but what happens when it’s time for some drama?
The Young and the Restless writers will have to come up with an obstacle to put in Summer and Kyle’s path. That shouldn’t be too hard since problems tend to be around every corner in Genoa City! What’s the biggest threat to Kyle and Summer’s happiness on new Y&R episodes? Let’s mull over a few good options.
For starters, there’s work. Summer and Kyle make a great team at Jabot, but their relationship has shifted. When Kyle was married to Lola, work was his opportunity to be close to Summer. Now Kyle and Summer are together constantly.
There was talk of too much togetherness when Theo Vanderway (Tyler Johnson) joined Jabot and broke up with Summer. Although there were other issues that played a role in that breakup, it does make a difference when you’re with someone all the time.
Could spending so much time together bring more chances for clashing? Kyle and Summer might have some workplace conflict that spills over into their personal lives.
However, there are other hurdles that could emerge for “Skyle” – like Summer’s parents. Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) and Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) have accepted Summer and Kyle’s reunion, but for how long?
It’s easy to imagine Phyllis and Nick turning to protective mama and papa bears at the first sign of trouble. Any couple’s going to go through some ups and downs, but Nick and Phyllis are already wary of Kyle. If issues do start to emerge for “Skyle,” Phyllis and Nick might wade into the mess and make matters worse.
There’s also the possibility that when “Phick” inevitably blows up, they’ll feel like all reunions are destined to fail. It could reignite Nick and Phyllis’ concerns about how things will turn out for Summer.
Kyle’s ex is another potential problem depending on how Y&R wants to play this. If Kyle finds himself feeling too protective of Lola, that could certainly stir up some jealousy in Summer – and jealousy is a quick way to spark tension!
You can never count out Theo when it comes to causing drama either. If Theo doesn’t his happily ever after with Lola, he could shift his focus to destroying Summer and Kyle. Theo definitely can’t be trusted based on his track record, so there’s always a risk when it comes to this troublemaker.
